Exhaust silencers on the new M3

The June 2007 Roundel article states there are two in-line silencers in the M3's exhaust.

What might be the effect of removing them, besides MORE NOISE?

Throw an eisenmann or Kreissieg exhaust on it, they are the only companies that delete all the cats and resonators, super loud
