Lease Buyouy Nightmare

The lease on my 09 335 is up in ~50 days, one payment left. I have been working with the dealer on what to do next for ~3 weeks. As soon as I decided to keep my car vs lease a new one things went south. It took almost 2 weeks to get them to give me a full price on the car (residual + tax + title and doc fees). This morning I called and asked who the check needed to be made out too (European Motorcars of Des Moines or BWM of Des Moines) I was told BMW Financial Service since it was a lease buy out. So I go to the bank get the check and about 15 minutes before I get there I get another call, it is the sales person telling me she was just told they will not sell me the car for what I was quoted, that they will only sell it to me for $2k more as they need to inspect the car and I have to buy a warranty.

Awesome, part of my day wasted, a return trip to the bank of something they could have told me weeks ago. I told them before that I did not want to buy a warranty thought them, partially because what they are trying to get me to buy is a 3rd party warranty, which as of yet I have not seen the full details even though I have asked for them repeatedly.

Overall one bad experience after another at the dealership. They backed into my car last time it was in for service, I was lucky enough to be standing there when it happened as the guy was just going to drive off and the service manager originally tried to say it looked fine.

I am usually easy going, understand that they need to make their money too, but when I start getting lied to or manipulated it gets old quick.

I started working with another dealer this afternoon, they are ~90 minutes away. Hopefully worth the tank of gas to not get treated like garbage.

Can't you just call BMW Financial and tell them you want to buy out the car so they will send you paperwork which you sign and send them a check for the price you agreed upon to buy it when you leased the car.

I am sure I could have but when I called BMWFS before I was told to go to the dealer. When I told the dealer I wanted to buy the car I asked them, should I just deal with BMWFS and was told no, that they would help me out. This afternoon when I called back they emailed me the paperwork to take to the bank. Just way more jacking around then it should be.

^This. I did this when buying out someone else's lease. No dealer involved.

I think this was the way you used to could do it but I think BMWNA mandated that you must go through a dealer now for all negotiations and payments.

+1 on this.

I just completed the same process on my car about a month ago and had zero interaction with my dealer. Completed the entire transaction through BMWFS.

You're also not required to buy the warranty or have the car inspected unless you're looking to be CPO. I bought the extended warranty outright from a dealer after I bought the car and they didn't even see the car before selling it to me. You should report them to BMWNA.

As long as your factory warranty isn't over, you can by a BMW extended warranty with out an inspection as the last post stated. Boy, that dealer sounds really bad! I'd complain to BMWNA.

I just bought it out from BMWFS today. I spoke to a few dealers and all said that was the best route thought most offered to process the paper work for me at no charge. they all commented that the tactics were under handed. I may work with one of them on an extended warranty if I decide to get one and once someting I want is avalible I will be taking my next purchase else where.

Never, ever, ever ever ever get a 3rd party warranty.

All you have to do is Google them to see just how much of a rip off they are.

The #1 thing is they all have a clause that states continuing to drive when a known issue exists will void the warranty claim. They count the distance it takes you to stop the vehicle once an issue happens as the above, and automatically void the warranty claims. I shit you not, there are web pages dedicated to this stuff.

The only extended warranty that is worth anything is the manufacturer's extended warranty. That's why it costs so much more. They actually cover warranty claims.

Report to BMWNA. Soon as you call them watch how quickly the dealer changes to meet your needs. It happened to me.

Good. I hope you included the names of all those involved. Because not everyone in the dealerships are dicks. I used to work for Motorrad in Marketing...we constantly had to hear the stupid shit Parts/Service/Sales fucked up on, and then were tasked with controlling the issue and made us seem like dicks.
