Rims & Tires for F30 328i
How does one determine what size of wheels and tires can be fit to a vehicle? My '13 328i sport line is coming with 18" style 397 wheels (18x8.0 P225/45R18 square) and I believe the default offset is 34mm (not 100% sure about that), but I'd like to look at alternatives wheels and tires (possibly staggered) in the 18' to 19" range. Obviously they need to fit in the wheel wells without rubbing as well.
I'd expect that there should be something of a rule of thumb that other F30 owners have been using when trying to determine what wheels/tires are reasonable for their vehicle... maybe even a list of recommended sizes? Can anyone point me to some good reference sites or provide a list (or tutorial so I can develop my own list?) Thanks!

I'd also welcome any recommendations for decent quality wheels in the 18-19" range that would look good on an alpine white F30. I like the black & chrome look, but I'm open to recommendations.
Thanks!

I am trying to do a square setup with 245's all around, though I'm not sure that they will fit without rubbing in the front wheel well. I've read about some folks with E92's doing that config but nobody with an F30 so far. If I can't do that I'm probably going to go staggered with 235's up front and 265's in back, since I've seen a few success stories with F30's in that config. The hard part is figuring out what offsets best go with each option since the wheels range from et 32 to 40 and from 8-9.5 width. Most come in 35 which is closest to stock, but that might not give me the right clearance on the struts and such on some of the wider wheels. I may just wait to see what others do since I don't want to try ordering multiple sets of wheels and tires just to test different configurations.

Yes, the lowest price I found so far. The guy will also install them for $40 and $5 each to switch TMPS. I am going with the staggered set up with 235/35/19 for front and 265/30/19 in the rear. Offset is 35 front and 40 rear. I bought pretty good used tires with 80+% tread for a steep discount. Bought all 4 tires for $410. New quality tires cost $300/ea. Consider going with the 19s. Cars looks a lot better with bigger wheels. I also lowered mine with HR sport springs.

Any idea on rim type/size, offsets, or tire specs? I was planning to go with 245/40-18's since those are the closest to standard diameter, along with 18x8.5 rims (though anything from 8-9.5 will work, just means different offsets.)

I like the look of the 19's and 20's but the ride is so much harsher with the larger tires, they have a higher tendency to crack/bend, and in some cases they don't handle as well either. The 18's strike the best balance between comfort, handling, strength, and look, IMO. Mine has the sport suspension which is lowered already, not to mention I'll probably be leasing so I don't really want to do anything I can't take off at lease end.

Based on what I believe to be reasonable estimates, the 245's should fit (-11mm inside gap, +9mm outside tire push, or just under half an inch) and should not cause the tire to stick outside the fender, but without being able to actually test the fitment to be sure, I've been trying to find some examples to prove that it makes sense before I blow a ton of cash on wheels and tires only to find out that they don't fit. That is a nicer calculator than the one I usually use (http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp) so I might start using that one more often. Thanks!

Does anybody know if installing larger than OE tires would void any warranties? For example regardless of the OE tire setup (square or staggered) it seems that the largest OE tire for the front is 225 (on the F30). If we put 245 for example would they maybe blame any future steering issues on this?

IMHO, 245's in the rear is not that appealing if you're going to spend out-of-pocket on a wheel upgrade. Why would you not go staggered with a larger rear wheel? I've got 275's in the rear. Specs 19"x9.5" ET38 with 275/30/19's. No rubbing issues and it's really not an aggressive set-up. There's a ton of set-ups people are running here. Just research it and rip someone else's set-up. BTW, I looked into the 19" AG M359's with the 10" ET38 rears. Too aggressive for me.

The wheels I wanted to buy and would have bought were the AG M355's. They're the same size as the M359's. I phoned Avant Garde in SoCal and they said it was too aggressive. Me and a couple of other guys searched and could not find a single guy with the AG set-up we wanted.
I believe AG technical department said it was 6mm too far out. We could mill out 3mm, but it still was not enough. If you're willing to put in some negative camber, I guess you could do it. I wasn't willing to do that with Michelin PSS. Now that said, this gentleman plans to buy the very wheels you want. The AG M359's. Maybe he knows it'll work. I wish you luck because if you try it out and it works, I may buy those M355's. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809444

It could work. The guy that sold me my wheels wanted me to try the AG355's and do a smaller tire. It's literally half a finger width. I anxiously await your pictures and report.
Good luck.
