BMW drivers stick together
So I went to the movies today to watch spiderman. being me, I'm a little anal about people parking next to me ( cause door dents, scratches, bumps, etc...) So I park in the farthest possible parking space from the theater.
So after the movie I come out and to my surprise I found this! mine's the white one! seems like BMW drivers like to stick together! |

i typically park next to other BMWs when I see them. i like to think they are as anal about dents/dings as i am. besides, people like to park next to other cars so their car isn't isolated. therefore, always park by a nice car when you can. you won't get dinged.

That's really cool!
I generally park in the back of the lot as well, you never know even with a nice car. All it takes is for someone's child to swing open that door to get out. I watched someone's child swing open the door of his mom's brand new 7 series into another car while waiting for my GF in grocery store parking lot.

generally, though, it is safe to assume that those same drivers care about their own cars getting dinged.

Haha, nice pic!
Btw, does this rule generally apply only to BMWs? I have the same problem - the entire parking lot might be empty, i park in the back, only to come back and find the parking lot with only 2 cars in it: mine, and another one basically glued next to mine. WTF?!

I don't like that s***. I used to go to this gym, and this was in early '07 when my 335 coupe was like 2 mos. old. Another guy with a 335i coupe would park next to me, as if I were his shield or something. I thought it was g**. It sends others the wrong message and increases the chances of someone messing around.

I know if I can find a BMW or two, Merc's, Lexus, etc....I walk away from my parked car much more comfortably, and apparently they feel the same way. Not uncommon to walk out to same said cars congregated toward the back of the lot with me.

I park next to islands in the middle of nowhere. If there is a security or cop car nearby that's a bonus. Who cares anyway if it doesn't get dinged in a parking lot it will ANYWHERE else.

Exactly. I got over trying to park away from everyone else once I realized there were a lot nicer cars than mine parked with everybody else. Besides, if I park out by myself I seem more likely to attract the Fred Sanford type than anything else. Go figure...

I hate when somebody parks next you and an empty lot.

They could at least park one space over . |

a LONG LONG time ago, I was at BJs Warehouse (here we go, warehouse club! lol), and I parked as far away as I could and it was like 8 pm on a weekday, nobody there. A yellow 370Z parks right next to me, when there are plenty of other end spots around. Everyone is free to park where they want, but there still is sensibility. |

I always try to park next to an island at the far end of the lot but in seems that my cars tend to be equipped with the "car magnet" feature although I honestly do not remember ever checking that option.
If I have to park next to another car I always check the door edges of that car. If there are paint chips in the door edges i know that the drive has a habit of opening his door into the car beside him/her and I will look for another space. |

Me too. Protects one side.
I usually try to park away from other cars, but as a previous poster mentioned, someone will still park next to you, even if you are the only car in the lot. Herd mentality. They think your car is lonely. One thing you can control for, though, is wind speed and direction. If the wind tries to take your door when you open it, assume it will for the (theoretical) person next to you too..... |

I use to always park all the way in the back now i try to find the closest spots to where ever I'm going and park, if theres one next to a curb i would prefer that one of course tho . and if the car next to me looks like it might dent my car, looks beat up or something i usually take down the license plate just incase . when i come back i check my car. but when i was really anal about parking in the end all alone i noticed i would get more people parking next to me or dinging my car.
