wastegate bolt unthreaded itself

Lately I've been having issue's with my boost holding to redline and also spool up time even with my lagfix value saved at 100. My boost would lag target 1.5-2psi than a comparison to my logs months back running the same set up and lately my cars performance was inconsistent.

I decided to check some things around my car and I noticed my wastegate bolt unthreaded itself. My wastegate's have always rattles during cold starts and letting off the gas. Sometimes I can hear it rattling when I drive by something that will echo off sounds.

Seeing as the bolt was already loose, I took the opportunity to do Mr. 5's wastegate rattle fix by lengthening the rod via twisting it "out." Kudos, this worked to fix my rattling and also allowed my boost to spool and hit targets easier, reliably, and all the way to redline.

The downside, the bolt unthreaded itself AGAIN after some WOT runs despite my best efforts to tighten it. Also, even with the rod lengthened, the assembly still "jiggles" as if there is some "play" to it (I'll chalk this up to age). Anyone else run into the issue of the bolt unthreading itself? Attached is a picture of the location of the bolt after a couple WOT runs after completely tightening it.

The jam nut isn't tight, it still shouldn't spin though. The wastegate actuator is adjusted by loosening the jam nut, taking the actuator off the wastegate pin and spinning the end of the actuaor. If the wastegate rod can be spun without removing it from wastegate pin, the actuator is bad. That but being loose my cause a slight rattle, but it shouldn't change the adjustment. There's a flat spot on the rod you can hold while you tighten the jam nut to keep from damaging the actuator.

Thanks for the input, I'll have to tighten up the jam nut while holding the actuator rod. I'm not sure why the jam nut came loose on it's own unless it was always loose and I've never noticed it.

Has anyone else have an issue of the nut coming loose on it's own?

Can't you just put alittle thread lock on it to help kep it tight ? If you ever need to adjust it the thread lock stuff breaks apart it no problems. Just make sure you get the right stuff because there is different types of thread lock.

I'll use that as a last resort. Do you know off the top what the temperature rating is for thread locks?

Sorry I don't but I do know they make different types and I believe the different types are for different temps as well.

I you use loc-tite, use the blue. I can't recall the temp rating, but it's usually listed on the bottle. Blue is temporary, red is more permanent. If the jam but is tightened properly, it can't loosen up. Did you ever haw your wastegates adjusted or turbos replaced?

according to my service records, no turbo or wastegate actuator was ever performed. The jam nut didn't have any "scratch" marks on them either to indicate any adjustment was done in the past.

IIRC blue and red loctite burn off around 400* F
I'd use the locknut, not loctite.

I adjusted mine without taking the rod off, no need to take the rod off....spin the rod either into the end (shorten the rod) or spin it out (lengthing it).
