Helix turbo upgrade or RB turbo upgrade?

i would like to know if they are significantly different since price difference from Helix to RB is around $700-$800. I had my turbos replaced under warranty around a year ago due to rattling but after I put my 2nd new exhaust and 2 new BOV (synpase) i heard a rattling and air leaking, before the BOV built boost. so, my car is in the shop right now geting looked at but IF it is my turbos going out again, im just gonna upgrade it but dont know which one to go for. Are there other brands out there beside these two or are these what we have as far as turbo upgrades? if so, which ones?

I would go with RB's just because theres more than 100 people running them and thus far theyve been golden.

RBs have a proven track record that they work. Nearly the same quality as ASRs for 1/2 the price.

Helix = ???

For a LONG time I was very interested in the Helix turbos and I did as much on them as I could and this what I've been able to find: Nothing.

The dyno graphs are all excuses. I was in contact with Helix though email about the turbos and never received any technical specs when I actually asked about dyno numbers on currently available aggressive tunes the email suddenly stopped coming.

I think they are similar to the other half way hybrid turbos in that the gains are minimal/ power goes the wrong way. Which is a shame because I WANTED to like the helix but I can't. Go with RBs.

RBs. as rader said no one knows anything on the Helix turbos... RB's user base is growing and users have been running them for a while now.

Helix and their shop are awesome, no doubt, but RB's would be my choice without any debate if i were upgrading the twins. There are plenty of people to talk to with regards to them including rob himself, as well as many who have made 500whp on RB's on meth.

Rob Beck loves what he does. That alone is worth the 3 grand you throw at him and you know he won't run away like the competition if the turbos go south. AND they're proven time and time again to be good for 500 whp at least.

but then again, i still don't know if it is my twins that's causing the rattling noise or a crack in the manifold. I smell some sort of gas from the engine bay and DEFINATELY hear air leaking from the engine bay...help guys?

Most twins rattle. It's very common. There's a fix for it.

Fwiw, I have contacted and emailed all these "other" companies that do pretty much the same thing... which is machine the compressor housing + billet wheel + maybe clip the turbine wheel.
Half of them respond to my emails, some stop responding when I ask questions about what work has been done.
Then NONE of them have distinct info on whether or not they make any power. There's a handful of dynos, but they all "had some problem"

Which is fine right? Sometimes that happens, but then there is never a dyno after the "problem" was fixed.

RB is a great guy and is very patient at answering all your questions. I emailed helix multiple times with no response from them at all! I will be installing RB turbos July 2nd. I really wanted to wait for a single turbo solution, but because of the timing I can not wait any longer & to be honest after some of my conversations with RB I think I'll prefer it to a big single turbo..time will tell.

I go to HELIX for just about everything done to my 335i. They are great knowledgeable guys. But like everyone else said, the RB turbos seem to be more proven. But heres a dyno sheet of HELIXs turbo incase you havent seen it.

Wow thats a completely ridiculous power drop off past 5700rpm. I want to say the RB Turbo dynos I've seen around the same power level maintained torque quite a bit better... still falling off, but not like that.

The dyno sheet says it was done w/ a "conservative JB3 tune", so it's possible that with a JB4/more aggressive tune that the turbos have some more power with them with a better power band

As of right now, RBs are still FTW

I would stick to the RB's bud. I have them and would not go to any other setup. You still have that low torque all the way across the power band, but does start to fall in its face around 6500. I shift at 6300 rpm/s. anyways

2 things That im worried about is the price difference and the rattling noise. will these upgraded twins give me the rattling noise like the OEM twins? im on my second set of OEM, covered under warranty, and now the second one i believe is rattling again....

RB's are the only ones I know if in that price range that have additional modifications to improve/eliminate WG rattle.

The dyno of Helix turbos are what I am talking about...no one has a relevant dyno with the newer software and it's hard to compare.

Honestly I would be okay with a cheap turbine clip and billet compressor wheel upgrade if it wasn't much more than OEMs, but they want so much money I can't justify it.

Especially when I can make up the difference in power by a simple n2o jet change
