Single Turbo + Cobb ATR

At the risk of eliciting some strong opinions, I'm curious whether or not anyone has any intention of getting a single turbo and making an ATR map for it rather than using a procede.

Is it possible? I'm sure there are pros and cons to both, meth support likely being a big point of contention. What might be some advantages?

I know a large part of developing the turbo kit had to be dialing in the tune to get consistent, smooth results that generate as much power as possible without blowing things up, so it's bound to be quite a bunch of work. Having options though would definitely be a positive.

Thoughts?

It would be more realistic to have a ATP map where you can put the car on the dyno and start from there.

ATR will come after that.

HFS-4 and HFS-3 meth system work great with Cobb

I think the ultimate solution would be to run a combo piggy/flash.

Some will try and I suspect they will be disappointed. Too many things in the DME which make single turbo control unrealistic. I suspect those who disagree will agree if/once they actually try it.

First hurdle that comes to mind: MAP sensor.

I agree. I imagine we will see more info come to light over the next year or so.

Why? ATR lets you scale the map sensor voltage

It'll be like anything else. It will be difficult at first, advancements will take place and things will slowly fall into place.

Not only that but the MAP sensor from the N20 is available pretty much PNP.

Yep, not sure if he still makes them, but Terry was making Plug n play harnesses for them as well.

I've got a feeling that demand may begin skyrocketing soon

Is a new sensor not a part of the kit? Doesn't seem to me like an issue for the tune.

If people can make 1000 HP on a civic with 25 year old technology I don't see why current tech wouldn't be able to do without bandaids

The map sensor isn't the real issue. But rather load scaling, torque limiters, boost control issues and rev limits (throttle based). I think it's possible to make it work to a point. But it won't work nearly as well or as consistently without an external tuning device. We have tried

Current tech actually makes it more difficult to do things outside of the parameters it was designed for. If one could remove the DBW, torque limiters, throttle based boost/rev control, high freq flyback solenoid control, transmission/dme communication, all the inter-table dependancies, etc, the MSD80/81 would be easy to map for single turbo applications.

Standalone EMS?

Now that I think about it, I can't recall ever seeing a member using one..

Some high end stand alone ems system capable of supporting direction injections are certainly an option. But you would be sacrificing some of the things that the factory DME does better than anything else (knock control, closed loop fuel control, misc safetly functions, etc). On the end, the best solution is one that doesn't give the important things up while improving upon/replacing the functions that it doesn't do well (due to fundamental design).
