I have it in my car and it runs great. I asked about it on here too and alot of people said dont use anything but BMW recommended oil. But Im out of dealer warranty so I wanted to give royal purple a try. I thought I used 5w30 but I could be wrong, I forget. But overall I cant complain. My car runs smooth with no issues. Only downside is its pretty expensive oil.

I love Royal Purple. As woptang22 said, it's pretty pricey. I change my oil about every 3-5k miles and take it in to service when I get the 15k notice in the car.
7 quarts of Royal Purple would put you at about $60 alone. BMW uses Castrol, where 7 quarts is probably about $40 or less (Wal-Mart 5 quarts for 27$) when I change my oil. I actually just changed my oil the other day and bought Mobil1. My friend did the same in his 135 and said he felt a difference and likes it more. If Royal Purple wasn't so expensive (and if our cars didn't use 7 quarts) I'd probably be using them.

I actually paid over $70 for the 7 quarts of royal purple in the philly area. Kind of pricey but it does run smooth. Ill most likely stick with the royal purple since Ive switched now, and Id recommend it to someone that needs an oil change. But the issue is price.

I prefer Amsoil to Royal Purple. Oil is like religion.
I'm still using the deals crap since my car is being serviced for free these days. Everything else I've owned for 20 years uses Amsoil. My 530i, e30 M3, e36 M3 and my Dodge Magnum. |

Me also!!! I've used Amsoil for about 8 years now. I even use it in my offroad Jeep Cherokee.

I use the high-end Castrol pure synthetic, 5W-30. There are several varieties of Castrol oils, and you have to look closely to be sure you're getting the correct one. As long as the oil meets BMWs oil standards/specifications (as listed in the owner's manual), it'll work just fine. It doesn't have to be Castrol or any other particular brand, as long as it meets the specs.
