Turbo Replacement, What Else?
I am getting my turbo's replaced and i am replacing the vacum lines but what else should I get replaced or done while my engine is unmarried from the car.
The mechanic said he has no problem doing that since he has the car's engine all pulled out already. Have any suggestions? |

Clean out your oil lines or get new ones. You will also need all new hardware (gaskets, bolts, studs, etc). With oil lines ~$400 ..w/o $200. Rob Beck has a good excel spread sheet with the "required" hardware when doing his turbo install......OEM is identical.
Might be a good time to replace the water pump/thermo since they are a frequent fail item. Like above poster said, good intake valve cleaning is probably due as well.

Once again, depends how much you wanna spend & if you're running an aggressive setup (from your thread I see you're not FBO yet, not sure if things have changed since you posted that) -- I'd call VAC Motorsports, ask them what their thoughts are. IIRC they've upgraded some peoples injectors for cars (135s & 1Ms specifically) that are getting tracked. **If you decide to upgrade your injectors, make sure that the tune/DME is calibrated for them. Changing to different fuel injectors isn't a "plug in" mod. |

I have extended warranty though so if any of those things fail than it would be covered under warranty, correct?
Also the mechanic did say I am getting new gaskets for the turbos and stuff. I will look Rb's spreadsheet, anyone have a link? Also where could I get those oil lines at? And yes I am FBO |

Under warranty & you should get new fuel injectors. And here's the Rob Beck list: http://www.rbturbo.com/BMWTurboReplacementParts.pdf

Don't waste your money on new oil lines unless they are clearly coked up and create a restriction. Those lines are very big and should be fine. Just make sure to closely inspect them and blast them with some carb cleaner.
If I was to do it again, I would have replaced my water pump since it was disconnected already. Rob has a good excel sheet on his website that I followed pretty closely and everything went fine. |
