380mm Brembo Brake pads vs Performance "brembo" brake pads

Hi, all

I was cleaning up the garage and found out 2 sets of used brake pads. One set is for Brembo GT 380mm x 32 front for 335 and the other is OEM performance BBK 338mm x ?? front for 335.

Judging by the pics, I assume the brake pad from the performance BBK is larger than the one on the Brembo GT?

Although I own the brembos but I am not quite sure what the 32mm means(from 380mm x 32). I actually took a rule to measure the center width of the pads and it's significantly wider than the "32MM"?

If both using the same brake pad, which one supposed to give me more braking power? I am confused now

The 32mm is the thickness of the rotor.

The left-side pad is for the Brembo 380mm BBK, and the right-side is "BMW Performance" pads.

You'd need to measure the surface area of both pads to determine which one has a larger friction surface. However, both pads may have different friction material compounds with varying friction coefficients and max operating temperatures, so you may not be comparing apples to apples.

The 380x32 Brembo rotors also have a higher thermal capacity than the BMW Performance kit, along with increased leverage due to the larger rotor diameter.

And in addition to George@Vs contribution: What gives you braking power is how much friction can be generated from the tires to the ground - what BBK gives is better heat resistance and/or lighter brakes in weight (a bit simplified).

Just because a brakedisc or brakepad is very large does not automatic give you more breaking power.
