What to do with 335is to get a deeper/louder tone...

Hey guys so I am in LOVE with the performance exhaust that comes with the 335is, it does sound amazing but it is too quiet for my taste. (No I won't be selling it )

I want to figure out a way to make the car sound a bit deeper/louder. I used to have an e46 m3 and with that car a titanium exhaust (such as Dixis or Gruupe M) would essentially do the trick but this car is a bit tricky. Seems even titanium exhaust systems are not as loud as I would want them to be.

Also I am not talking "ricer loud" I am talking just a louder tone that would make me happier

I know many people will say install downpipes but I am trying to avoid that route for right now just trying to see what I can accomplish with exhaust setups.

Any ideas? Links to threads? Thanks guys!

Downpipes. Not only do they sound good but give some nice power.

Catless dps on stock exhaust will give some what of a raspy sound from 4-6k rpm. Down low it just sounds deep n dirty.

Downpipes or secondary cat delete. Also, unplug the actuator in the trunk for the true performance exhaust

Well, one way would be to buy a Mustang Cobra or Shelby Mustang...

Aside from that, it's going to be tough to make it any louder without introducing "drone" into the equation. The turbos have somewhat of a muffling effect, and if you start removing parts of the exhaust system, you'll likely get drone or rasp effect.

Yeah I think if you put some downpipes on you will get the sound that you are looking for, and if not, then you can do a secondary cat delete and you will be good then.

Does the use of titanium in an exhaust make the car louder and deeper? I thought it was only used for weight savings.

Switch the IS exhaust for the BMW Performance exhaust, it will be a lot louder and you won't have to mess with cats if sound is all your after.

Titanium often gives a more raspy sound.

Any "solution" is going to be a hardware swap.

Catless DPs will give you the sound you're looking for without the drone & be the least expensive option. Any aftermarket exhaust (whether it's BMW PE, AA, HPF, Vanguard, etc etc) will be A) expensive and B) could potentially cause drone, forcing you to spend more money and add a resonator.

Since you're not selling it, I assume you're keeping the car -- Downpipes are the best option since an aftermarket exhaust really won't any significant gains. DPs will not only give you that deeper sound you're looking for, but will also allow you to run a higher performance setting, increase your power numbers & allow your turbos to spool much faster.

Its your call -- I already PM'd you about the VRSF DPs I'm selling, so let me know if you change your mind.

Mufflers are what making IS sound like IS. If you cut them off then the car will sound like any other 335.

Here's my 335 with complete IS exhaust and AE downpipes

The exhaust gets *very* loud after 4k RPM but still pretty quiet at cruising speeds.

You'll get proper I6 sound when ditching the stock duals for a correctly done single to dual split. I think HPF is the only one to get close but for some reason they didn't include a muffler, only a resonator (so the one vid they have with catless downpipes sounds like crap)

It is a lease so I am trying to avoid downpipes but looks like I have to. And the only downpipes I will buy are AR design so no I still don't want your DP's.

What he said, you might be pleasently suprised in the difference it makes. If it's still not loud enough for you then you can get some DP's. I don't have a 335is but the golf t mod made more of a difference than dp's and swapping out the resonater with an x pipe.

Ya i tried the gold t mod. It sounds good but with it closed was better for me somehow. I don't know with the golf mod it sounded dirty...like fart can mode.

Well finally installed some AR downpipes...problem is it is still too quiet for me! I don't know if they need to be broken in or what but I was expecting more. POWER IS AMAZING THOUGH

What would be my next step? I am trying to avoid the idea of a muffler delete.

Replace secondary cats with resonators and if that is still not enough buy the BMW performance mufflers.

If that's still not enough then full straight pipe is the only way to go for you haha.
