Bov and meth

Is it true that I can't run a bov if I plan on getting meth because it will spray meth into the engine bay when it releases boost

It does discharge a spray when it blows off, however my tuner assures me its perfectly safe at a 50/50 or weaker mix.

If you're using a very aggressive mix of meth, you mite have a reason to be concerned. But even w/ a BOV, any meth that escapes is a negligible amount -- the BOV will only open in between shifts, so if you're WOT the BOV shouldn't be open very long.

I just feel a bov and meth do not work together and not smart.

Lol maybe it's a good thing the 335 is prone to not blowing off during shifts.

Meth ignites alot easer when sprayed than in liquid form, even if the probability is minimal, you are increasing your risk.

Any flammable substance is more dangerous as an aerosol than as a liquid. If a BOV did release some meth into the engine bay, it would be dispersed so quickly b/c of all the turbulence in the engine bay.

If you do want the SAFEST option, you are better off using Diverter Valves that will not release any meth into the atmosphere/engine bay.

Wouldn't re-circulating meth also be an issue?
I'm guessing it's too tiny of an amount of meth to worry about?

The meth would be recirculated back into the intake tract, which is why some meth users experience less carbon build up in their intake valves.

It may actually help by dropping pre turbo IATs a tiny bit.

Ehhh, I'm not a fan of injecting pre-turbo and this seems to end up with a similar effect although it's probably a negligible amount.

Um...all meth are injected through the valves. WTF are you running?

Meth bungs are located towards the end FMIC of the charge pipe. The airflow pathway starts at the FMIC, up into the CP, where meth is added. As the air continues to travel through the CP, it will first pass the DV/BOV ports & then finally enter the engine through the throttle body. When it finally enters the engine, it will then be run through the intake valves & finally blended w/ fuel in the pistons.

All meth injected into the CP during WOT will reach the intake valves, but we were discussing the potential for a fire if meth was released by a BOV into the engine bay. B/c a BOV vents directly into the atmosphere (more specifically the engine bay), if you are running an aggressive meth blend (greater than 70%), there is a potential for fire. With a 50:50 mix, there is close to zero concern. The power gains between a 50:50 mix & 75:25 mix are minimal, but the potential for a fire igniting is drastically different.

You could always relocate the BOV, ive thought about changing my BOV location to the hot pipe just before the intercooler, or mounting it to the intercooler itself. Full Race often mounts their BOV directly on the intercooler(hot side) with the theory that its better to vent the hot air than the air that has already been cooled by the intercooler.

Find a spot on your piping, mark it, head to your local speedshop to weld a new bung on. Depending on your BOV, either make a block off plate (easy for the greddy style) or have them cut the flange off and weld a piece of alumnium over it. Run a new vacuum line down to wherever you mounted the BOV and your done. Sounds like an average enthusiasts saturday if you ask me.
