is that driveway completely level? if you drive to another location and stop, does the car still look level?
also, check the front struts - are they adjusted exactly the same on both sides? making changes to one corner will often affect the opposite one, so it can be tricky trying to get the car level. |

[1] What did you use to verify the floor's level, all 4 tire contacts? Nearly all floors are not, varying from location to location across the floor.
[2] What ride height are you targeting? [3] How are you measuring ride height? Last edited by CALWATERBOY; 06-08-2012 at 04:31 PM.. |

Every single BMW I have ever owned, that includes:
1x E30 318is, 1x Z3 1.9l, 2x E46 323Ci, 1x E85 Z4, 1x E60 545i, 1x E86 MZ4 Coupe, and 1x E92 328i... Has had the passenger side sit around 1/4" lower than the driver side when no one is in the car. Since new. Every single one.

Ride height varies front / rear; if you measure to the floor you include the tire, not a reliable value. For my ride:
Ride height is measured from the top of the wheel well fender flange to the bottom of the wheel rim. Front Stock Values: 16" wheel -- 22.99 in -- 584 mm 17" wheel -- 23.58 in -- 599 mm 18" wheel -- 24.09 in -- 612 mm 19" wheel -- 24.60 in -- 625 mm Rear Stock Values: 16" wheel -- 22.24 in -- 565 mm 17" wheel -- 22.83 in -- 580 mm 18" wheel -- 23.35 in -- 593 mm 19" wheel -- 23.82 in -- 605 mm But if you wish to work with wheels off the car, which I did, measure from the top of the wheel well fender flange to the bottom of the hub. That was 18.7" front; 18" rear on my car. __________________ Nope, you shouldn't trust that a shop floor's level. Verify with a water level - can easily be 1/2" diff, just within the footprint of an E9x. Here's something made for Joe Lunchbucket, but valid for everyone: Move to 2:07 into the video. 1/2" is enough to create significant alignment error. We'll have to disagree on that - even if level when installed, not a given, it'll change.
Good pics & clean shop. There's this guy, Murphy.... . Last edited by CALWATERBOY; 06-09-2012 at 05:38 PM.. |

Are the dampers high pressure gas? If one is considerable highe pressure than the other, that can cause a height difference. Along the lines of people saying that when they install Bilstein HD shocks, but use their stock springs their ride height increases.

What else could be wrong? Bent subframe I suppose. Bent camber arm, guide arm, control arm, and/or sway bar. Much more likely: Toasted bushing(s) among preceding. Distance from shock hat to camber arm, both sides, match? Maybe goes without saying -- suspension bolt torques. |

does this mean the problem stays on the same side even after swapping the springs? Then the springs are out of the equation. You wrote the suspension has 2000miles, did you buy them second hand? I ask this because the rubbing marks on the shock look rather as if this one has a lot more miles on them. Did you try to swap the shocks too? Did you loosen all the suspension bolts and retighten at driving height? Because this can cause additional spring rates from the stressed bushings. You wrote that you reused the oem bumpstops, I'm not shure how the Weitecs come from factory, but my KW V3s came with their own shorter bumpstops and Weitec is owned by KW. The Weitecs should be similar to V1s only not made from stainless steel. From the pics I see your car already is very low, there is not much travel left, if any with the oem bumpstops. Usually they are meant to act ass additional spring, perhaps they are worn on one side? It is not always visible If they are worn. How many miles does the car have? If there is really nothing wrong with all the parts, you should corner balance the whole setup and live with it. Perhaps then the spring adjusters sit level, only the look is off afterwards. But I doubt that the tolerances are that high from BMW, especially from left to right. |
