Question tuning N54 increase chance of waste gate?

looking to get some more fun out of my 08 335xi which is no longer under warranty

Does tuning increase risk of issues with turbos or waste gate?

I understand that i might have to cure misfiring but are there other costs/risks?

thx

Turbos have other considerations, but if you aren't on it 24/7, and allow the turbos to cool off before u shut it down, IMHO you should be fine

But, if it turbos are going they are gonna go faster IMHO

And this is my 3rd turboed car, my b7 a4 ate two turbos before I went ko4. And for the record the first one went under warranty and stock

Depends how aggressive you are with your tuning. If you are running under 14 psi, you're fine. The minute you start doubling the psi (OEM tune is ~8), you really start pushing the turbos. All the major tunes taper the boost down at redline, which is where you'd do significant damage on the turbos.

Like anything, when you start pushing the car beyond what it was intended/designed to do, flaws + weak points are going to become more obvious. Spark plugs/ignition coils under BMW's manual should be replaced every 35-40k, running a tune most people burn through them in 25-30k. The trans both have "lifetime fluid", some people feel more comfortable get a trans fluid change between 40-50k (but stay lifetime if they miss that mileage).

This is a performance car so it needs to be "babied" and cared for a little more than a Dodge Ram or Ford Windstar. If you treat it like that (don't change the oil, brakes, etc etc) them the BMW will break your heart + your wallet.

so should be ok since i am not going to be racing the car - just the occasional acceleration on an open road
