Other forums REALLY hate on the 335i

So I've been creeping around on some other forums to pick up info on street tires and I often visit mustang, GTO, Vette forums for this info.

WOW, a lot of people on these sites are VERY VERY misinformed and such groupies. I thought some of the guys on this forum were 335 fanboys, but we have a lot of realistic people who give respect where it's due. These guys on these forums blatanly are hating on the 335i and totally discrediting it.

Some are SO SO misinformed, they mention how the auto tranny makes you lose a full second in the 1/4 because it has a rev limit since it's designed for the autobahn? WTF? LOL... the odd thing is the members with 6000 posts and some of the mods even chimed in to agree saying "if it's an auto you will walk it, if it's manual it will be a drivers race." Then I see a lot of people saying "a little microsoft chip" is placebo and does nothing and how our turbos are maxed out.

A very common theme is that "I like to drive my own car, not have a computer drive it for me" ... where does this stem from? DTC?

Definitely seeing a lot of negativity towards BMW, a lot of people just hating on the brand period. The groupies on e90post don't seem so bad anymore haha.

EDIT: Don't see this as much on the vette forums, these guys seem like true enthusiasts who know their shit. I see it a lot on SRT, GTO, older mustang forums.

A guy with the following stats and a G8 - 355rwhp - 321ft/lbs

He calls the 335i an overpriced plastic car driven by a computer for egomaniacs after someone mentions losing to a tune only 335.. He goes on to say they only lost because the 335i was above 5000rpm and that is the only way for a 335i to win because it's "chip" turns on both turbos at the same time. He told the member to re-race the car from a dig because it's an auto and it's torqueless - saying that the 335 won't even make it out of the intersection (street racers) before the G8 is gone out of sight.

He has 321ft/lbs of torque?? LOL

On LS1tech the guys are very knowledgeable and give dues when earned. (However, as you mentioned, the dodge, fox body and Honda guys tend to be fucking idiots.)

In fact, the average user knowledge on LS1tech makes this place look like the special ED class.

The problem is this platform keeps improving literally on a monthly basis (almost) that most information and old races are out of date.

I recall meeting quite a few people and they would say something like I ran a chipped 335i and smoked it. I would ask which tune, and they wouldnt know...

Sure enough a friendly run came about with my "chipped 335i" and I would blow their doors off. Of course they would be confused. So then it begs the question do they really know about this platform? Probably not.

I mopped the floor with so many unsuspecting victims they probably went home checking their compression that night or they would swear I had nitrous. People would ask where my bottle was hidden LOL

LOL @ bold

The only car I can think of at the top of my head is a Supra, bone stock the 2nd turbo kicks on after like 60 MPH or something. Usually one of the first mods the supra guys do is get both those turbo's working. I love how this car is torqueless when its advertised in the brochure of having a stellar flat torque curve from 1500 RPM from the factory.

Ls1tech is a great forum, majority of the regular guys over there aren't groupies, they just love cars and love performance regardless of whether it's coming out of their own cars or a 335i.
Some of these other forums it's just like WTF?????

Haha yeah, it's ridiculous the progress this platform keeps making, it's as if it just NEVER plateaus. The funny thing is to get this car running at almost 90% of it's potential it barely costs $1000. The people often mentioned "BMW Tax" and how the amount we spent on modding our BMW's they could have bought a second GTO blah blah.

A recent thread from 2012, a guy puts up a dyno of a split second tuner and goes ahead and laughs at it saying BMW tunes are an ebay joke.
I had the itch to sign up and throw up a 498rwtq dyno, but then I decided to leave it, it's much more fun when people aren't expecting it

These people are only hating because they are jealous at how cheaply we can make our 335's into absolute beast! The N54 motor is awesome and a one of a kind

Every platform makes fun of other platforms, no surprise. Whoever has the bigger wallet will have the faster car at the end of the day.

You are right, this car is fairly cheap to get some good power. Hell, you can grab a used Jb3 for next to nothing, and a basic methanol kit for under $300 and your at 400WHP.

I beg to differ. I frequent other car sites regularly, and, in general, the 335i is widely respected. Of course you're going to get fanboy knuckleheads talking trash from time to time but that is par for the course on any niche car site.

In fact, when researching my next car purchase a few months back, the topic of how good the 335i was came up on other forums that lead me here. I never really considered myself a bmw kind of person and tend to lean towards american brands when possible. There where several sites that had very positive things to say including evoxforums, camaro5, challengertalk, golfmk6, etc.

I found and bought a 335i e90 based on opinions from not only here, but from other enthusiasts that drive something else.

Hate usually comes from envy minus funding. with no funding you can't buy what you covet.

This is true. I do remember some folks on my old platform asking about the 335i. At the time of discussion the HPFP were really an issue so I was skeptical of recommending the car. It seems all of those issues have been ironed out. As with any car, they have their quirks.

Yeah, I actually have a friend/family friend who bought the 135i just for the hell of it. I gave him my old tune and he bought a meth kit and nitrous kit, VERY basic and cheap kits as well. He doesn't really care if he blows it up as he has the funds, but this car has run times that only the vishnu car could top... all for about $500 he put into it. It's ridiculous.

Maybe it's the specific sections I visit since they are more geared towards drag racing/street racing what tires are good etc... it's probably more of the less educated crowd and more of the streetracer/angry drag racer crowd.

Clearly any conclusion reached via a couple hours spent on a forum reading a couple of the million posts will suffer from an extreme sampling bias. Kind of like how in the past week I've had over 10 Hyundai Genesis' try to street race me or do ricer blow by's on me and then laugh in their side view mirrors... but that's a small sample so I won't pass judgement.

Still can't beat the story I read on my.is back when I had my Lexus IS300.

This guy with Lexus IS350 thinks his low oil pressure light is not working. So he drains all the oil and starts the car to see if the light will come on.

They will destroy you on a G37/370z forum if you speak positively about the 135i/335i. Those guys are the worst.
