How many Miles using E85 N54s ??
So, with all the e85 use going on with the N54s, and the concerns about Fuel Pump Failure and general corrosion, It would be nice to know some user experience with longevity:
1.) Tune 2.) Mixture ratio blend 2.) How many miles used 3.) Any problems .... Here is my initial experience ... 1.) Jb4 2.) 65%/35% (93/e85) 3.) 2k miles 4.) no issues Last edited by Yeahdickey; 06-01-2012 at 10:05 PM.. |

1. At the time, I had JB4 (no longer have it)
2. 50/50 E85 and 93 3. Don't know how many miles I used this combo, but I ran it for about 8 months straight on map 7 4. No issues, but I sometimes threw a few fuel mixture codes (I might have gone a little overboard with e85, but the car still ran great and cleared the codes) |

I've been looking for info on E85 and the N54 for some time, and this is the only car that I have seen with more than days/weeks of time on it:
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15060 The lack of tunes for this motor until recently means that there isn't a lot of experience with it. Subaru and Mitsu owners (among others) have run 100% E85 for many years without issues, but whether that experience is something you are willing to take into your decision on running for an E9x is up to you. edit - looks like RagingPanda has some decent time on this mix as well.

1.) Tune: JB4
2.) Mixture ratio blend: 70/30 - 50/50 (Shell 91/E85) 2.) How many miles used: about 14,000 (at 63,000 now) 3.) Any problems: none. I have my JB4 launch control/boost limit settings for 1st and 2nd gear set at 11 and 13 psi. Prior to learning about E85, I was mixing 100 octane race fuel with my Shell 91 at $8/gal, just so I could safely use map 2. The 3" downpipes help, but I wanted some knock resistance that would keep me safe from knock. There have been some issues along the way with trying different percentages of E85 in the mix, but I found that anywhere from 30-50% not only allows me to run high boost, but keeps the timing looking good. I was concerned with the A/F ratio at high boost/RPM and had a couple fuel codes in the past. Now that Terry has this new map 5 dialed in for E85, it's just a monster! I'm boosting 17 psi and everything else is staying healthy. The car fires up quickly when cold also. I'm in serious need for an intake cleaning, but thinking about doing that in my garage some weekend soon. Otherwise, it's smooth on power build up and very reliable.

Awesome thread! Was wondering when this type would show up so we can start logging and comparing our E85
1.) JB4 2.) 50-80% E85 blend with 93 octane 2.) 4 tank fulls (approx 1400 miles) 3.) Cold start idle misfire with 80% blend My car runs great with 60% E85 content (even though a max of 50% is recommended). I LOVE how the timing never drops below 10 degrees of advance in any sane gear (1-4th) and reliably climbs up to 14.5 degrees with E85 mixed in the tank with my mods. I have the basic 18ohm JB4 board that runs a max of 17.5psi, no other mods besides DCI and meth (49/51 meth/water ratio)

1.) JB4 15ohm
2.) Started at 30%, now I'm up to 50% E85 3.) About 2k miles in 2 months, and the car has 56k on it now 4.) No problems at all, its running better then ever! I can't wait to go to the track again and better my time, because I know its running much stronger with this new firmware!

What I used to run:
1. Cobb 2+ aggresive 2. 60/40 91/e85 3. ~7-8k miles 4. no issues Currently running: 1. JB4 new map 5 2. 50/50 91/e85 3. 500 miles 4. no issues I have to drive 2.5 hours round trip to get e85 so I bring 3 five gallon gas cans with me each time but is more than worth it for the added power. |

Post up on the Subaru and Evo forums, I'm sure you can find someone willing to get you a few 10gal cans of stuff if you pay them a bit. If I had E85 2hrs away, I'd just be buying it by the drum

1) JB4
2) 60/40 93/E85 - also tried 50/50, 40/60, 30/70, this is what works for my car but I have had some fuel system issues unrelated to E85 that may have weakened my LPFP 3) 20k miles (started running it 10/2011) 4) a. Slightly longer cranks, initial idle on a cold start is a bit rough until the DME compensates b. In freezing temps a 50/50 mix has very rough cold starts, I only did 70/30 in the winter (and that is on winter blend fuel which is actually E70). The good news is my 93 octane and most 91 around me has 10% ethanol, so mixing them still gives you close to an E40 mixture. c. At higher mixtures I will get injector shut-off codes, and fuel pump codes, playing around with the FP setting in the JB4 does help somewhat but you have to back your mixture down when you've maxed out the FP and your trims are still no good. When I'm running my mixture for my car though, it's a freaking monster, with a soft launch and full weight (4k lbs) I ran another 11.9 @ 117.4 |
