Luxury Market Price Escalation and M3 price projections
Has anyone else noticed a significant and rapid price increases in luxury market items. I know that part of the push is due to China but I’m wondering if the luxury market is not pushing the envelope too much.

For example; in the luxury watch market, price increases on Rolex and Omegas have been quite extensive(~30%). For those who don’t know, I think a new Submariner is retailing around $8,000. Louis Vuitton and Chanel also had some significant price increases over the last two years.
Looking at the pricing of a loaded 991S and a new M6 which ball park around 126k, I have to wonder where the price of an M3/M4 coupe will land. It seems that the cover charge or entry price into the luxury items has been rapidly increasing.

If the M3 coupe is to be a 2014, just by simple projections, a loaded M3 could easily hit 100k. That is just crazy to me…

Who pay's retail for anything? Markup is increased because consumers are no longer blind and can negotiate easier... If you ever paid $8000 for a Rolex Sub, I have a nice piece of land for sale in Florida, and it comes with a bridge...

Also agreed that this whole convo is #FirstClassProblems. That being said I wouldn't pay more than 75k for the next M3. Unless it comes with a trunk hooker.

I'm lost the MSRP on a Submariner Style 116610 in Stainless in 2008 was $7,250 , 2009-2012 $7,375. I am not a math major but that's not a 30% increase.

I don't think your number is right. There is no way that in 2008 a sub was 7,250 and in 2012 it's 7,800, they have been increasing their prices like crazy!

Check out this price list from 2008
http://www.minus4plus6.com/images/Ro...01_Page_24.jpg

Let's not get caught up with minor details, the fact of the matter is the luxury market is booming, prices are rocketing for various international reasons, my concern is how this will push BMW and the next M3/M4

I'm really trying to focus on entry price and aggressive price increases.

If you really want to look at price increases, Look at a Planet Ocean in 2009, ~3,000 in 2012, same model (base co-axial) is going for 4,500, the ceramic 8500 series even more so.

The high revving V8 in the E9X was a selling point for asking upwards to 75k. A tri-turbo inline six...meh. If they're raising up to 80k they must be out of their mind. I'm waiting till it hits CPO/ZCP time.

I think that it should be cheaper than the GT500 given that it will likely make less HP

yeah, I'll be keeping mine for the time being, and if power is an issue, 8K for an ESS kit will take care of that.

Panerai watches have gone up a lot too. It's scary because most countries are still in economic hardship.

The F10 M5 price hike vs. the E60 M5 was minimal right? I wouldn't be surprised if we see the same thing happen with the M3. So, I would guess that it will start under $65k, and not go over $80k loaded.

The M4 is a different story. I could see it starting at $70k or more, and for a convertible, it will probably be over $90k loaded.

I don't understand why there will be such a big price disparity between a M3 and M4, which are essentially two very similar cars. it doesn't make sense.

Have you compared the price of an M5 to an M6?

I would hope that BMW would sell the new M3/M4 in the same price range as the E90X. Current owners who want to the new model may scoff at a $10K price hike. I know I would think twice before trading in my E92 on a new M3 if they raised it that much.

In Canada, the F10 M5 actually went down in price compared to the E60 (by about $10k) .

I guess BMW is finally recognizing the relative strength of the Canadian dollar.

So I am hoping to see the same for the M3/M4 .

Hopefully, and I might get flamed for it, but it seems to be the future, the DCT will be standard with an option for the 6MT. This I can understand for a $3k price bump.

Well I am unaware what the new car will cost, but I do expect a loaded car to cost 80k. It is most likely going to be my first brand new car so I would hope it wouldn't run that much. After seeing a brand new blue 991 yesterday on these stock gunmetallish color wheels I would consider other options. I know cars are just getting more expensive but I feel the economy isn't keeping up. Then again I am not a finance genius. I may wait and see what/if a BMW M2 would look and perform like. I would assume it would cost 60k fully loaded and be a bit smaller. That is my real problem with the new M3/4 is that it will be larger. I think the e9x is on the larger end of what I really want.

Sedan- ~$75K
Coupe- ~$80k
Convertible- ~$83k

That is what I am expecting at least. I would hope that it would be significantly lower though.
