Kerbed my rim

Hi, was taking a sharp left turn at speed and kerbed my passenger side rear 230 style wheel. Any suggestions on where's best to take it here in Sydney? I checked with a bodyshop in Alexandria and they quoted $300, they said they forward it to a shop that specialises in wheels. Anything I need to know about getting kerbed wheels fixed and any other options?

Thanks

yup I've used wheel centre repairs previously, very happy with the result..they'll need to keep your wheel for a few days though.

Sorry to hear that.

Did you scratch you wheel by just turning hard? Is it even possible for a rim to scratch the road?

Thanks guys. Thought I spelled "kerb" wrong as "curb" in a hurry so reedited it to "kerb" though turns out both spellings are correct, "curb" I initially used is the UK version

Thanks, that sounds very reasonable, have you done BMW wheels with them?

These guys are in Botany so quite convenient for me to go and ask them for a quote.

I could check with them for 5 wheels since will have to ask around anyway, what style wheels do you have?

No, I turned a sharp left at speed into a very narrow road and the rear wheel grazed the protruding high kerb, hurts even more because I have been quite careful with those wheels and can't blame my wife for that either

Just heard from Bob Jane t-mart Haberfield, they quoted $95, reckon there would there be any difference in finishing quality between the $300 and $95 quote?

Not really, they'd likely sand it down, use filler, sand it again, spray silver over it, then spray clear over a slightly larger section to blend it in.

Thanks Stu, further on your explanation, so they wouldn't repaint the whole wheel, they would sand the affected region/s and then paint the repaired area and blend it in with the part of the wheel with the original paint that's not affected, correct?

Also received word from http://www.wheelrepairs.com.au/, they said 220+gst and the description of the process involved is "We remove tyres and repair the paint to OE standard and bake finish it, so it takes overnight assuming a clear day to repair the wheel, and the tyre back on the next day after curing the paint."

So guessing they will have to repaint the full wheel if they bake it? And how's that different from the rest? Confused

Have you priced a new rim, from say www.bmminiparts.com? You'll find that they will most likely blend the colour and clear the entire wheel. The wheel will most likely look fresher than the others.

I spoke with my smash repairer today, and he said they compress the rash out of the wheel, fill big gashes with the welder then paint.

My guy is $150 if you give him a clean rim without rubber.

Guess they have increased prices since then, did you take off the tires and give them the wheel or did 150 include that?

Heard from Bob Jane, this is what they said "Generally the damaged part would be repaired, painted and blended to match , however if there is any damage around the stud holes or elsewhere it may be worth going over the whole wheel face.". I guess I will try the $95 option with Bob Jane first since going for the 300 one will be getting closer to just importing a new wheel.
Will keep you'll updated when done, thanks for all the suggestions!

Just checked, price of a new rear wheel is http://www.schmiedmann.com/3_series/...e23.htm#paging is 416 Euro+shipping, so makes sense to repair I guess since comes out to USD 674.62 in total for one wheel.
