Siren of death?

I believe my front turbo is going out. I recently started hearing a loud siren noise from the engine bay and I did a search and I'm afraid it's my turbo going out. I just bought this vehicle from a private owner so there is no warranty. What are my options such as stock, aftermarket? If aftermarket, what turbos are available to upgrade to. I need to resolve this quick because I don't want this car to be sitting in my garage broken down. Thanks in advance

RobBeck for hybrids. Probably your best bet. And yes that is a sign they're going.

Price is also a factor, I'm not trying to dump out a couple thousand on a turbo as well. If there are any aftermarkets that are of great value but not too costly and fits perfectly then please send me where to go. How much are RobBeck's?

I know people who have had the siren for 40k, is it only when the cars cold when you first start driving it and eventually it goes away?

siren does not always mean your turbos are going. plenty have had described that sound for a long time with no turbo failure. early into driving the other day i noticed the siren sound actually, only 26k miles, and my turbos are running strong and healthy. dont jump to conclusions. and IF yours are failing, get RB's instead of the stocks again.

Same here if there's no smoke, and the cars running fine I wouldn't worry about it. Mine make the siren noise cold or hot. The sound is defiantly louder when its cold though. My still hold boost perfectly fine.

You could prob find RBs in the used parts section --- Some people have started parting out in anticipation of the Vishnu/HPF single-turbo kits

If you have $3000 to spare, you can get RB turbos. Otherwise, a stock turbo from Tischer BMW costs like $570.

But your absolute cheapest option is a TD03 turbo repair kit for $60 per turbo. If I were you, I would go this route.

You can still purchase a powertrain plus warranty through BMW for 1/12 or 2/24 or 3/36 if car less than 84 mo and less than 80k miles.

I am pretty sure it's blown now, there's no smoke though? I took it for a drive today finally because I've been scared to drive it, and I tried to see if it'd hold boost. Unfortunately the noise got louder and boost didn't hold.

Hmm... I'm interested in the repair kit. Has anyone ever repair their turbo themselves in here? Such as a guide to help me? And also do I need to do anything such as take out the motor or drop the subframe to unbolt the turbo.

Sheet I had was over a year old. Started at about 1500 for one year and went up about 3500 for three. Stop by any dealer with your key and the service advisor can print out for your specific year and model. Are any codes active??

I think I might go this route first depending on price and no codes are active. So how does this work, if I purchase the warranty then take my car in to get it fixed as soon as I can, will that be denied because its a problem that happened before I purchased the warranty?

To the dealer, if you dont have any codes, they dont see any problems otherwise, which means they wont log anything wrong with the car prior to your getting the warranty... So you can get the warranty and then go to them complaining after i would assume..

Maybe 15 or 30 day waiting period but would be worth it vs many thousands out of pocket. Call dealer tomorrow and play innocent and see what he is selling. Good luck

You're looking at 16 hours of labor is what the dealership quoted me to do an inspection on the waste gate rattle. They said the only way to do that was to take them out. 2k out of pocket unless they were out of spec, then they would replace them under my CP. But I'm not willing to roll the dice. I'll just put the 2k toward a single turbo kit and do the install my self. Good luck.

Just because you bought from a private seller doesn't mean no warranty.
