This nav system is hilarious.

Drive from Austin to Houston this morning and the first route it gave me was 100 miles out of the way via San Antonio. One of the alternate routes was 250 miles out of the way via Dallas. lol

yeah, i mean that's a complaint of all car-based nav systems - all brands. i'm hoping with google map integration coming on board in these systems, it will keep the routes more up to date and give better options.

Do you use the eco route option, I find the fastest option a bit better.

This is why I still wish we could get a 3er without any form of iDrive. What a waste.

Google can do some idiotic stuff, like avoiding a mile on a local road by taking 7 miles on the expressway, stuff like that. Just saying...

I prefer the Brit girl on American TomToms FWIW.

Re: OP-- Word to NYers: don't get lost in TX. It's...how should I say? Large! (I got 100 staff in TX, 50 in Autsin. God's country/hate the cops.)

Not to mention the streetnames being awkwardly off in Hawaii :/

When going somewhere new, I always cross-reference what the nav says with Google. That's technology for you. Long live the paper map.

I find that it tells me to turn right instead of left and vice versa -- any CDN F30 owners notice this? Almost ended up on the other side of town because of this...

Yet another reason why I'm not going to pay $2500 for it, even if the head-up display is cool.

It's nothing a $4.99 map and 6th grade education can't solve.

I really am not a fan of $2500+ nav systems. I'd rather put that money towards something that puts a smile on my face.

I don't think that was the case. I left at 4:30 am so there wasn't any traffic. On the way back, it wanted me to get off the interstate and take the business route through a couple of towns.

Probably something in your preferences, avoid toll roads or something... I've had Nav in an Infiniti, 2 BMW's, an Audi, and 2 MB's and Mercedes' is by far the worst an never took me more than a few miles/minutes out of the way. From my experience at least, Audi's was the most accurate and efficient, then BMW's.

Fwiw, I once failed to turn on the "avoid ferries" setting in my '07 x5 the first trip I took it on and that did take me HOURS out of the way, thanks to a ferry ride... But that was my fault, not the nav.

my Audi nails it every single time. Mercedes was annoying (though it was in an 06 ML500..) and I've never had it in my BMWs.

I use a nav as a reference, if you live by it you'll find yourself in the ocean or a pond or a rock wall... Trust your instincts not the artificial voice in a box!

One serious annoyance is that I can go to the scroll feature and highlight a spot but I can't drop a point on it to set as a destination, its as if I have to highlight the spot, take notes on the address then go all the way back out of the nav and enter it in the destination... Am I doing something wrong?!

-> Audi has the best imo, bmw's isn't too bad and both are decades ahead of the porsche system I had in my cayenne...

i guess i am not missing spending $2500 on that Nav... even tho the HUD and the larger screen are nice but still not worth it...
