very good idea before taking car into BMW
so i have about 36 miles to an empty tank and i have to take my car in tomorrow for service..
in the morning i have class which is about 14 miles round trip so i was thinking i shouldnt fill up so if they want to take my car on a joyride, they'll see it doesn't have much gas (<20 by the time i take it in tomorrow for service) and they'll leave it in the shop! cuz i remember a couple weeks ago someone posted about their car being taken out for a possible joyride so this is how im going to prevent that! :rocks: |

The St(d)ealer has gas at their site, it won't take them long to put in a couple gallons and all go to lunch in your car.

I will write down my mileage on a business card, and stick it in the dash...
As if to say, I know my miles... I also write down this number and keep it in my wallet. Have never had any joyriding problems though I do wonder WHY my Trip OD gets reset...

You could always squeeze cheese into the dakota leathered sport seats right before taking it in. That way the tech will want to spend as little time in the cabin as possible and just service it and go onto the next vehicle. The downside is your new car smell will be gone.

service techs taking cust cars joyriding is more akin to urban legend than reality. come on...why would a tech risk loosing their 100k job to joyride in a car they've been inside of thousands of times?!
also, if they really wanted to go 'joy riding' they just need to add a few gallons to your tank from the dealership gas pump. |

Joyrides dont happen w/ customer cars as i have seen at the several dealers i've worked at.... that's what CPO and Demo's are for....
however, as part of a service, the vehicles are supposed to be driven to be sure that the vehicle doesnt have any suspension noises, accelleration problems and such. the odometer being reset, thats just from someone resetting your service data, as it's done through the odometer reset button, and most of the time, if not timed correctly will reset the trip odometer. another reason joyrides arent done in customer cars, cops tend to not deal with cars that have dealer plates. if you go in for a complaint, there will be miles added because the car needs to be test driven if you go in for a service other than brakes, typically the technician wont care to test drive the car, its a waste of time for them and time is money. |
