Replacing brakes and need advice

I just got some new wheels and am tired of dealing with the dust from the OEM pads. Is there a popular opinion on the best performing/No to low dust pads? Are there any good deals out there on big brake kits? I don't really want to spend the money on Brembo, I do not track the car.

Thank you for any advice you have.

dont get cool carbon...they suck for track and any kind of aggressive driving cause as they heat up they start breaking down. my brakes started to squeal so bad i changed them out to akebonos (which are pretty good so far).

after inspecting the cool carbons they have chunks missing from all over the brake pad...i read a thread about this happening and guess its true.

but if you dont plan on tracking i guess this isnt an issue...sort of as all this happened while i was rebedding my pads because they were starting to squeal.

Virtually all brake noise/squeal is caused by metal to metal rubbing during
braking either on the piston face to backing plate contact surface or on the
pad ears to carrier contact surfaces.

Cool Carbon supplies instruction as to where to apply high temperature
caliper grease and also products such as noise free to the piston contact
area. http://www.coolcarbonperformance.com/faq.html

While some install pads dry possibly without issue-this is not advised and
generally can lead to noise later with any pad.

We run these pads on our cars and many customers and have been extremely
pleased on both the street and on the track- we have not experienced any
temperature issues and have seen quite elevated temperatures.

They are a street performance pad rather than a pure track pad but do
perform well with light track usage.

It is possible to fatigue any pad if the maximum operating temperature is
exceeded.

If you feel you have other issues please contact ourselves or Cool Carbon
directly- they stand behind their product for all legitimate complaints.

i went with the ebc redstuff, just got them put on last friday and they seem to be doing pretty well so far. i cleaned my car on sat and barely any dust on my wheels right now, had it been my stock pads there would already be a thin layer of brake dust. i did have to do the bed in process 3 times though to make squeal go away, and i get a tiny bit still just as the car is about to come to a dead stop

My cc pads are almost as dusty as the stock pads.

We have advised on multiple previous posts that based on the photos provided
that your brake pads appear not to be making full contact with the rotor
surface- additionally possible that piston clip is not fully engaged in the
piston allowing drag and increased dust levels. Also the suggestion as to
the possibility of paint or foreign material between the caliper mounting
surfaces after removal and painting the calipers as a possible issue.

While you did indicate that you like the CC pads for the way they work over
stock for pedal modulation and increase to fade resistance, your repeat
posting regarding dust are not in line with the majority of our customers
that report well less than 50% dust compared with OE.

We understand that not every vendor can satisfy every customer 100% of the
time but we try - As you have over 1.5 years now with the product, perhaps a
lesser performing pad with somewhat less dust could be a better solution
for your situation.

Please PM and we will again be happy to work with you directly

Garage List
Has anyone tried retrofitting the new OEM 2011+ pads on their cars? I understand they are much better dust wise.

I had the same experience. installed cool carbons, used crc disc quiet lube (the red stuff) and put a liberal amount on the rear of the pad where it contacts the piston, as all as the securing tabs. Yet, even after bedding them in they still had noise with them. Not as bad as HPS' I've had in the past, but I prefer my street pads to be quiet as they aren't a track compound by any means.

I went with akebono's this time around along with some slotted rotors from brakeperformance.com and installed/bedded them the same way as I did with the cool carbons. Completely silent, the way a street setup should be.

Also, OP, unless you want to spend 2k for looks only, I'd save the money for a BBK and spend it on something else. Even for tracking your car, a BBK isn't really needed.

Well to bad. I can post whatever I want and PMing you is a waste of my time since you will just send me over to the guys at CC again. I am not the only unhappy CC user on the boards. The only way to make me go away will be to refund my money. And painting of the calipers has nothing to do with it since where the pad ears make contact is not painted so go pound salt. Again, you insult my intelligence with the install. They are installed correctly. I have been doing brakes for 30+ years and BMW brakes are basic brakes. A monkey can install them blindfolded.

I have Cool Carbons on my '07 335i coupe, and have had no issues with them for about 5K miles and 2 track days (Intermediate group). Brakes felt slightly better than OEM on the track, with no fade. Still on stock rotors, but replacing rotors soon for regular wear. Less dust than OEM.

I've got the TMS kit with Hawk HPS pads, Which made a huge difference dust wise.
Their kit is very complete and their discs are very high in quality.
