Hot climate version?

As I am shopping for 335's, I am checking the VIN to see what options it has. I keep seeing S823A Hot-climate version. (seems like I saw a cold-climate version, too but I don't have a code for it) Anybody know what this is specifically? Could it mean it has the factory oil cooler?

Thanks, Google search and this forum search has revealed nothing so far.

quick google search came up with this:

Quote:
Hot country refers to a coding option for the IHKA (HVAC computer) that sends more air to the center vents to provide the most a/c cooling. The coding option for hot country is to set it to "normal" so I would assume it's pretty common.
Quote:
IHKA programming enhanced to produce more cooling output when selected to “hot country”. (Footwell and defrost vents closed to allow more center vent air for maximum cold air.)

I wish i could program this into my car. black on black interior is a nightmare in the summer. Heck, even when it's 65 outside my interior is way too hot.

isn't this something you can adjust via iDrive? there's a climate screen where you can tell it how fierce you want the air to be

Can't you just hit the button for full air to the face? On the left next to the driver side temperature knob. The one pointing straight at the stick figure....

Also by closing the rear vents you'll get more air to the front.

I believe you can tap the "Auto" button repeatedly to adjust this setting.

back from the dead

My service advisor at Neiderlassung in Stuttgart Germany stated that all cars bound for the United States are Hot Climate Cars.

I have no reason to doubt him because every single US Spec 1er and 3er is subject to the battery cable recall and the SA stated this recall only affected hot climate cars (US, South Africa, Middle East, Australia, and parts of Asia). None of the European cars were effected.

MY SA stated that the battery cable recall is a FARCE!!!! it's just to get cars in and document any modifications to flag your accounts in case of claimed warranty work down the road!! they are onto what's going on with the n54s.

My car (canadian) is a cold climate version and is in the recall as well so it doesnt affect only the hot climate car but only export model from what I see.

Wow...makes me wonder why BMW Deutschland is replacing cables here in Germany & Europe. Especially all of the N52 equipped cars.

Yep, all regular USA E9x cars (328i/335i) are "hot climate". The M3 is not, though, and I'm not 100% about the diesels.

Hot Climate does not mean oil cooler on the X3. That is another option. Temperature on the oil block next to the oil filter is extracted via convection and it is water cooled. If you have a rectangular block next to the oil filter with a single connection that is connected to it, it is not the oil cooled version...!

So just to confirm, the fan/motor isn't different between the hot climate version and regular, its the coding that controls the cars and then controls the speed?

Im sure hot climate means oil cooler. I had a 335i 2007 that was labeled Hot Climate version in the VIN decoder and had the oil cooler installed. My X3 is also Hot version but does not have oil cooler. It has a water cooled line and block where the oil cooler housing goes on the M Sport models.

This is hot climate

This is hot climate too. Sort of... Just a different way to cooling the oil. If you are missing any of the above. Then you do not have the hot climate version.
