putting a single turbo on a 328xi need a little help
ok my buddy has a 328xi and he was wanting to go turbo so he bid on an ebay turbo kit and won so now i have the task of installing which i warned him time and time again not to its probly garbage....... but to the point iv done civics in the past but nothing like this. mainly all he got is a turbo, intercooler, bov, charge piping some fittings and thats all. can somone point me in the direction where i can find the right manifold, stuff for the fuel system injectors pump, programming software ect.. or if i dont need all that can somone tell me what i do need and dont need. not sure if the fuel system is good enought to run the turbo im guessing not. iv checked ebay and alot of websites cant find really anything.
ps. can u use the n54 injectors, pump ect..? |

Tell your buddy to just sell the turbo kit and cut his losses. At this time it's honestly probably cheaper to trade the 328 for a 335. |

Lol is this one of the turbo kits that come with everything except a manifold, some random pipes and a turbo made of plastic?
GL installing it, post some pictures when you start the install. |

OP. First, the piping you got is most likely worthless. Turbo kit. Key word. Turbo as in a turbine. This is part of the exhause system. Sending you generic intercooler piping for the intake system its basically an intake kit with a turbo. Exhaust manifold, downpipe, fuel system, engine management... You have less than 1% of the puzzle. Send it back.

You guys are probably in way over your head. Take a look at what you got and take a look at your engine bay. I bet you will see tough difficulties from inspection alone. Put tuning on top of that....it's an uphill battle you will probably regret.

And yeah what the hell dude.. go 335 are you serious? I mean that dude bought an EBAY turbo! Not only will you have to upgrade internals but you'll have to get CUSTOM software done by a tuner that believes that it's worth his time and effort with adjusting maps and dyno time just for one dude that bought an eBay turbo. Like the others have said, he has to accept his loss, sell it, have fun with the 328xi and then sell it and get a 335i. It's high risk and low reward.

lol this isent my car i have a 335 my buddy has a 328 lol and he dosent wanna accept the fact that he cant make it fast he knows nothing about cars, i now that turbo kit is worthless but if he wanted to get it lol i was gonna atempt to build one but if it ant be done ill make sure he returns it. before this he was talking about getting a electric supercharger that little fat that goes in your intake lol i about smacked him. then there is another chip that says it adds 20% 50hp or somthing and he thinks hes gonna get 200hp for like the 300$ hes gonna get riped off for the stuff i told him it was a scam lol BMS makes a chip for the 328. thay say its the best and it only give 10+hp. but all in all if its not gonna work ill make sure i show him this thread so he can see wat im talking about

Some dudes in Japan made a supercharged 330 i think.. I'd be concerned about adding forced induction to an engine that was clearly meant to be NA being that it contains magnesium parts to keep weight down instead of being all aluminum i.e. 335 to handle boost

Tell him to stop looking for parts on eBay and to forget making it fast. He should concentrate on making the car look good instead.

I don't get this. You've installed turbo kits before and you clearly understand how important it is to have the right manifold, fueling, software, etc., yet you still allowed your friend to buy the kit w/o these things and offered to help install it?
Why didn't you just tell him no you would not help him under any circumstance and save him the trouble of buying a worthless kit? At this stage, having your friend resell or return the kit and trading in his car for a 335i with a basic tune would still be much cheaper, more reliable, and more powerful than trying to adapt a generic turbo kit to a 328. |
