Just reposting this on e90post because im not getting any hits on 1addicts...
I was just wondering if anyone has replaced their wastgate actuator instead of the whole turbo. Im not sure if this is a new product because I havnt heard of anyone talking about it. just wondering how the quality/fitment is on them? yepp those are the ones.. I cant seem to find any info on them for some reason and with all the issues we have with the n54 turbos, youd think everyone would be all over them...

does the wastegate rattle have to do with dieing turbos? i thought it had something to do with the software. my car has the latest software and i have never had the wastegate rattle and my car has about 50,000 miles. so i was wondering if it is something that my car will develop or if it hasnt gotten the wastegate rattle it will never get it? if the answer to the question is yes the cars over time develop the rattle does that mean people are misdiagnosing the failing turbos?

It´ll only work for a short time 10-15t miles; In the old days it was what BMW did to cure the v.rattle, the poblem is the rod goeing in to the turbo were the vastegateflap is mounted. It´s too tinny in diameter 6mm ond the early models and 8mm on tne latest turbo´s. Heat from the turbo will cause the thinner rod to bend and then it wound seal to proberly to the turbohousing and then cause wear

You can replace the actuator, but it's the wastegate flap arm that really needs to be replaced. Unfortunately I was not able to find a source that sells just the arm. I believe a turbo rebuilding service might be able to, but I haven't seen any websites that carry them.
Now what could be useful is to swapout the vacuum system for boost controlled actuators, the same as what Shiv is doing for his single turbo setup.. It won't fix the wastgate arm, but it also won't rattle when it's always pulled tight to the turbine housing. |

I guess no one has even tried these actuators out yet so I guess I'm gonna be the first one. I'll right a review and update the thread when I get them installed sometime next week.

Makes no difference. I had my turbos replaced last August and they are noisy as hell now. I have procede so adjust as best I can but they are still noisy. I have these new actuators on them plus I bought an extra set. I'll sell them cheap if you want to try them. The issue is that to install them, you literally have to take the turbos out as once you install them, you have to adjust them with a certain amount of vacuum to ensure they are closed. It was mentioned by Rob Beck somewhere on this forum
So basically, if you are pulling the car apart, most people figure they should just replace/ upgrade the entire turbo. |

I had just the actuator replaced to solve my rattle. All the software update did was not close the rod all the way so it wouldn't rattle as much. That upgrade is what slowed all our n54s down from the way they came from the factory.

I'm doing it myself at a friends shop. Can't imagine trying this without a lift. I'll try to post some pics/info.

Keep us updated on the install because im getting mine in soon. I have read many of Rob Beck's posts and realize that this is not the ideal way to fix the problem but for $30, you cant not try it in my opinion. I work in a garage and have access to a lift and all the tools i could ever want so i just wanted to here people's feedback on the actual product before actually ordering/installing them. I also plan on only doing the rear for now and see how it goes...
