Motor Trend: G37 beats 335i in comparision review
http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/260025
Looks like BMW's decision not to put an oil cooler in all 335i's is going to come back to haunt them in reviews yet again. Before anyone has a crap and says "LOMG MT IS BIAS!", read the review - it's excellently written. The performance margins are razor thin, and the BMW's inability to stay cool cost it the win. |

I dont get how they still procured a pre-March production automatic model if they were trying to get the most up to date vehicles. Unless of course they knew the overheating would happen again and refused to find a post-March model. Kind of a sucker bet if you ask me, and unfair.
Also to note, look at how the BMW is quicker in pretty much all instances but gets better MPG and much more reduced emissions. Hmm, youd think they would discuss crap like that in this day and age.

Just read the entire article. The G37 is no doubt a formidable opponent. But as always, there are pros and cons associated with the two cars.
I would like to see the comparison executed with a transmission cooler equipped 335. This does not, in any way take from the fact that the G37 delivers. It capitalizes on BMW's faults by offering things not standard on our cars. LSD, key less unlock/start are some examples, at a cost of thousands less... I think that for those looking for a bargain, the G37 wins outright, you simply cannot argue the fact that the G comes better equipped and delivers similar performance for a number that might very well be a down payment on it. If the G37 was an option when I purchased my 335i, I'd still get the BMW. Why? Simply looking for a change as I've personally owned 3 Japanese cars before the 3er and had extensive seat time in a G35C my friend had. The cars are just different. I'm also not a fan of the G37's rear end and I feel that in sex appeal alone, the BMW hands many competitors their heads in a sack. The 3er coupe is arguably one of the best looking cars that only some exotics match. Throw in other things (in addition to the fact that the BMW is quicker and yields better mileage) and you get what makes a BMW, a BMW... To quote Infiniti's slogan a few years back, "Own one, and you'll understand", except I'm referring to the BMW...

This re-confirms my choice never to purchase Motor Trend. A track comparison of two performance coupes, and they pick auto trasmissions??
My favorite sentence is, “On hand for comparison is a BMW 335i coupe with an automatic transmission, procured by Infiniti” PROCURED BY INFINITI!!! Are you kidding me? I’m surprised Infiniti didn’t give them a coupe without the sports package, but the wheels look like the wheels that come with the sports package. I know I’m biased towards BMWs, but come on. Motor Trend is not a serious car magazine. |

from the article page 3...
"On hand for comparison is a BMW 335i coupe with an automatic transmission, procured by Infinity;" No wonder why it does not have an oil cooler.

The G37 is an AWESOME car. Honestly if I didn't have the money for the 335 i'd definately get the G37 over the 328. Similarly priced, but you get a lot more in the G. Give respect where it is due! Also hopefully this makes more ppl buy the Infiniti, so our bimmers will be more exclusive. Both cars are awesome.

You guys are so stereotypical sometimes. I mod over at CL and G35driver, and all the time I see people going "dude BMW forums are so lame, everyone is such a fanboi", and it's totally true. Plastic toy car? Give me a fucking break.
I chose the 335i, and I think it will continue to win objective tests (it won't every objective test in this review), but BMW *should* be taken to task for omitting oil coolers. The guy who came up with that cost saving plan should be shot. So have some respect; the G37 is probably going to be an awesome car especially for the price. The performance difference is razor thin, and the thing costs ~$7500+ less, and you get way more tech. Yes, there will likely be a few build quality differences (in fact, I know there will), but if anything this sort of review is a kick in BMWs ass - don't make stupid mistakes like omitting oil coolers. So yes, I own a 335i. And had the G37 been out I'd have likely still bought the 335i (would have had to test G37), but just because someone from MT prefers the G37 doesn't mean te mag is "gay" or that Infiniti paid them off. |

I love the fact that infiniti is givin bmw a run for its money. its about god damn time someone did so they step their game up.
0-60, 0-100 - the beemer wins. even if its by a tiny bit, it still wins. tiny as in 1.2seconds behind on the 0-100 run. at the end of the day, a beemers a beemer and an infiniti is a nissan. Lets see how BMW will try to widen the gap next time around.

I don't really like saying a Lexus is a toyo, and a infiniti is a nissan. I guess a BMW is also a Mini.

bmw will be castrated till they release the oil cooler on every car.
while im not a bmw fanboy... isnt it just a tad unfair to have a car supplied by the competition ??? we'll see where it all ends up in a 6 months (extensive real world reports from everyday joe's like us) ppp

Bimmer = Vehicle Beamer = Motorcycle. And anytime there is a comparison test, BOTH makers should be invited so that each car supplied is known to be sound and representative of current models available. Not saying Infiniti would do anything to mess with the BMW before or during testing, but come on!?!?! Just happened to have another oil-coolerless 335 sitting around....doesn't seem convenient at all, right? I too, agree that having such tests with AT is absurd. The G37 is further proof that other makers are, and always will be, shooting for the BMW benchmark. Let's hope that motivates them to stay a step ahead of the competition as they have for years...

Mini makes one car. a Small car that holds its own niche that very few vehicles compete in. Lexus/Toyota share the same platforms n such in almost ALL their models. Basically, its the same exact shit with luxury features and add ons. You cant say the same for mini/bmw.

PS - Mini is also expanding, with the clubman etc so they are moving beyond just one car like you say.
