Wheels F30 v C-Class v A4 Shoot Out
Surprised to see the new 3-Series came equal with the current A4 with the clear winner being the (oldest of the three) C-Class in the current issue of wheels.
Seems to be largely due to RFT and suspension performance. Positive views of the new turbo 4's and 8AT, though. I've never driven a C-Class (can't get over the foot operated hand brake) but the current C-Class sounds like a bloody good car. Discuss. |

No way, definitely biased! Mercedes are for old and fat man, and beamers are for players, entrepreneurs and driving enthusiast!
That's my take on it.. Surely I have lots of supporters on this forum right |

BMW have made the 3 series more boring. Also more suitable for old fat men IMHO.
Electric power steering, dull 4 cylinder turbo econo-engine, RFT tyres etc.. Why bother buying a BMW. Might as well get a Merc or Lexus. |

I think i have to agree with john!! the 3 series is getting more boring than the last one ! I mean I drove the 328I f30 and that wasn't impressive. Spacious but apart from that the drive was like ordinary car. It was like a BMW feel! less driver's involvement !

I think you might be right. I drove the 328 and while it was impressive, it didn't win me over. I love my e90 LCI even though it's under powered. I'm keeping it and now finally trading in the E39 for a 125 coupe as my daily toy. As a drivers car, the 125 coupe gave me a bigger grin than the new 3 series barge.

"...should enthusiasts have to wade through the options list to create a proper driver's car? We don't think so and neither does Mercedes-Benz. Engineering integrity emanates from every C-Class control, and from its single steering choice and one suspension calibration."
"So the C250 emerges as the surprise winner - it's the oldest car here by a year over the Audi and two-thirds of a generation over the BMW. A 328i with adaptive suspension and better steering could see it reverse this result, but the standard car's chassis shortfalls sees it slip to third behind the A4 TFSI quattro, such is its inconsistency. Both the Audi and BMW are rapid and dynamic in retain conditions, but fall short of matching the Benz's outstanding ride and steering." |

My comment was at most 50% jest. I wasn't really referring to the styling. Just the concept of the car that has changed from being a sports inspired sedan, to a larger luxury sedan, now with a greater environmental conscience. I don't have a problem with the styling, but I would have preferred if they kept the car the same overall size as before. Anyway I'm not ready to trade in my E90 because I am still in love with the 2.5 litre 6 cylinder N52 engine despite its modest power and torque. I'll be interested to see what the next M3 is like - Maybe that will change my view.

you just have to look at the seats in the current M3 and compare them to a 335. clearly they are designed to fit a larger arse in there |
