BMS OCC question

So I've had my OCC for about 3 months. I was changing my spark plugs the other day and I went and tried to empty my OCC.

I found zero oil in it. I checked all the connections and the flow direction. All good.

I am using Mobil1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic Oil. Does this have anything to do with this? Is my OCC not working right? I also have an oil cooler if that matters.

It's possible you have no oil in the can. Sounds normal to me.

The other day, I was installing my charge pipe. The oil is all over the charge pipe and intercooler pipe...

It's really scary... I will get an OCC next week or so.

Same, imagine it fouling up the MAP sensor so it can't get 100% accurate readings..trying to source one myself.

I do recommend BMS. The machining quality is amazing.

i installed my bms occ last weekend, and i dont know if this is a placebo effect or not, but i feel like my car doesnt have as much boost as it did before i installed the occ.. i feel like one of the pipes going to the occ could might be getting pressed due to the engine cover.. any way this can affect the engine performance?

I cannot speak to the loss of power but I just switched from my "homemade" catch can to BMS. My original one didn't have any oil in it after 3 months but I know it was functioning because I used clear lines and could see the light oily coating on them. Oily air was definately passing through it just wasn't very much.

I count that as a good thing but am glad to have the OCC for piece of mind.

On a side note, my wifes 07 GTI now has my original OCC on it and I drain that every 2 months! Collects a nice dixie cup of crappy oil/water.

The amount of oil the OCC catches is based on your driving style and does vary from car to car.

Glad you guys are enjoying the BMS OCC.. Its becoming the standard in terms of OCC on this platform.

If one of the hoses is being crimped/bent in a way that restricts airflow, then yes it's going to impact your engine's performance. The main arguement made against OCC's is that they restrict airflow, but the BMS can has been designed to catch as much oil as possible while NOT restricting the air.

If your car is out of warranty and you don't mind, you can cut the very back of the engine cover off -- The BMS install shows a picture of what I'm talking about @ the end

ya i was thinking of just doing that, but i still have a year of CPO left, although do you think they will give me trouble about part of the engine cover being cut off?

It's your car, you can do whatever you want to it (as long as it's not a lease, then you gotta return it)....

Option A: IF you're planning on trading the car into a BMW dealer/not keeping it, I wouldn't cut it up.

Option B: IF you're keeping it, then they shouldn't give you any trouble -- cutting the engine cover is going to have no negative impact on the performance/reliability of the car.

Option C: (this is what I'd do 1st) See if there's a BMW aftermarket garage/mechanic who's done this install before near you, maybe they can recommend different tubing OR move some things around so it sits flush.

I think the bms occ is a great option. The piece itself is pretty impressive and it is easy to install and it works. I installed mine and immediately went on a 1,000 mile road trip. It may have been a placebo or maybe riding with the cruise seton 80 for hours but the car felt smoother and stronger to me.

I recently changed my oil and so I checked the occ and there was only a little residue inside. It had only been 3000 miles so I did not expect large quantities.

The only thing I have noticed is that I get a faint wooshing sound at part throttle from 3k rpms on up that I did not have before. I assume that is is the sound of the air moving through the lengthened hoses and occ. The only other thing it could be is if I have a leak at one of the connections but I have no codes or performance decrease. Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
