DCI: the good and bad

The good: I've been waiting a week of these parts to come in, but I finally got my DCI installed and I gotta say that turbo spool sounds amazing. I didn't think it was going to be that loud but man it feels like a whole new car.

The bad: It was 85 degrees today and for the first time my temp hit 250 about 15 min into my drive. Usually it's at like 230 maybe 240 after some wot runs, so is that normal? Have others experienced there temp gone up after installing a DCI.

The dci makes no difference in heat for my car, maybe you were " on it" more so u could hear the dci? Do u have a oil cooler?

I noticed after modding the car my temps are alot higher also. But I have an 07 and no oil cooler. So Im assuming that doesnt help at all. Temperatures havent been so high in philly maybe 72 and my car gets up to like 250-260 pretty fast. But I havent seen it higher then that yet.

I have an 07 sport package and unfortunately no oilcooler, which is a bummer. I was on and off the throttle but just til they spool and let off. Well damn I'm sure this is just a foreshadowing for what this summer is going to bring with no oilcooler. But I don't ride my car hard, so hopefully I'll be ok.

Where's Mike@n54tuning. Usually he jumps in DCI threads and defends them...saying that they never cause increased IAT's, oil temps, blah, blah, add link to Terry Burger's biased test, blah.

i doubt just DCI's will increase oil temps by any measurable amount.

My oil temps were unchanged as well in my 1M. I can heat it up by running extra boost of course.

Oil temp shouldn't change when you swap out an air intake. Pretty sure it's unrelated

I was just trying to see what others had experienced, not start a gangbang thread here. This isn't a Bms DCI I have, it's a custom if you wanna call it that. I did it just for the time being and will most likely change to Afe later on. It's simple tho... you don't like Bms's intake don't buy it, there are plenty other well designed intakes out there for our cars.

My oil temps only hit 250 after back to back hard pulls. Usually, it hovers around 230 just cruising around and perhaps 240 in heavy stop and go traffic. I have the Stett cold air intake and OEM oil cooler.

1st thing, I don't know if everyone else knows the answer to this already, but are you running a tune? If you're not running a tune or just running one on low boost, you're better off running your stock intake with a drop-in filter.

This is where 99% of the forum users will tell you search this topic b/c there's about 8 billion threads about intakes, but for every thread you'll get 90 different opinions on DCI vs. Stock, Aftermarket boxes, DIY's, etc. Census says that the best intake that doesn't break the bank is a Mr5, from there it's a crap shoot. With the stock box you get air directly from outside the car, which will be a cooler temp (since you live in the tri-state area & not Texas). The DCI is suck in air from the engine bay, which will only get hotter as you run the car.

Regardless, my recommendations are (regardless of a tune or not) is that you either get an oil cooler or upgrade your FMIC. Either of these will address your cooling issue and should get your through a Tri-State summer (as long as it doesn't get like last year in Aug when temps were 100+ for a week straight) no problem.

Sorry wasn't intended that way as Terry is a friend. He did a test comparing IAT's with an open element DCI and the stock DCI, but in my assessment, the test wasn't done properly...yet Mike (N54Tuning) in previous DCI threads will tell you (not just the Burger DCI but any DCI) will not increase IAT's. Many of us disagree and believe if you are running no meth with the stock intercooler, the DCI will provide higher IAT's vs the stock intake.

You're best off searching the group buy (they're running spring/summer deals right now) or the used sections. I'm probably gonna end up buying a helix so when COBB releases their Stage 1 + FMIC map I can use that through the summer.... Very excited for the beta maps to be officially released

I'm running Jb3 map 3 as a daily driver. I've looked to piece together everything I need to put in a oem oilcooler, but it seems like a lot. So what your telling me is I can upgrade my FMIC and it will keep my temps under control?
