Exclamation Could really use some quick help. Buying used V5 REV 2.5 PROcede

EDIT: Just pulled the trigger on a V5

Hey guys,
about to pull the trigger on a rev 2.5 from a forum member here who claims it is unlocked. It was driven on a manual 135i and I have an auto 335i. He said I need a USB cable to change the settings from manual to auto. A 9pin to USB cable specifically. Is this going to make any problems for me as a 335i?

Is there anything else I need to look for? Will it cost me anything to switch from manual to auto? Will I be getting the original mapping provided by shiv? Are there any other complications or just plug and play?

Any input appreciated, want to buy as soon as possible.

The only additional cost assuming it is unlocked, is the 9 pin serial to bus cable. The other items mentioned are just maps available from Vishnu website. You choose between AT and MT maps.

No, I was set on COBB until yesterday when I was persuaded to go Vishnu.

If the unit wasn't actually unlocked, it would flash the SES light and not let you go past stock boost. But yes, you need the USB cable to switch maps, firmware or datalog.

Also is it normal to PayPal "gift" payment in the for sale section to avoid fees?
I've usually only dealt locally selling and buying parts.

Op- give us a call if you have any questions about setup or map selection. It's all very straightforward but some phone support can be useful.

NEVER buy something as a gift using PayPal because there is no recourse if the seller doesn't send the item. After all, a gift means you're giving the money away, right?

I honestly don't think $450 is a good deal for a Rev 2.5 when someone posted a Rev 3 today for $450 because his dad found out how much more power the car had with the tune. In my OP, the Procede has it's advantages, but a lot of people really enjoy their COBB and JB4 tunes as well. So honestly because I haven't drove my car with the other tunes, I can't comment about who has the best tune, just personal preference. I would recommend that you call Vishnu before you pull the trigger with an online buy. They might have some used units for sale or a lead on a used Rev 3 you can pick up for less. Too many scammers online. Gift purchase also sounds a little fishy to me... you could be scam 1001.

Link? Still available?
The reason I ask is because it probably isn't unlocked.
It costs 150 to get it unlocked and you also have to keep shipping costs in mind.
If it was unlocked that was one great deal

Average going rate for unlocked 2.5 procedes is 400 shipped.

Of course it's always supply and demand. If there are 5 for sale you're getting less. If there's only 1 ur getting more.

Ok, now I'm about to go crazy
Just read into PROcede and hear that they have a lot of misfire issues especially with 6AT
Does that hold true with the V5?
I saw you were in the thread quite a bit.
I'm just looking for the most "reliable" tune

V5 doesn't misfire, V4 did on autos.

That's funny because I have an e92 AT with a V5 rev2.5 and have never had an issue with misfires. I think if you read more of the forums, you will see all the tunes had issues when they started releasing more aggressive tunes. Plugs and coils are key parts to making good power. Because the N54 is a high compression engine at higher boost it is more susceptible to misfires with a weak plug or coil pack. So whoever made that comment doesn’t really know what they are talking about. Sometimes you have to read through some of the comments by some of the members here because they can be very misleading. I personally run tuned all the time and in the past two years I haven’t had any issues with my tune and have been really happy with the amount of research Vishnu is doing. They are very proactive in development and support. I’m not saying the other vendors don’t do a good job, but I can tell you that you won’t be disappointed. Just be careful buying a tune from someone online second hand because if it doesn’t work, you’ll be shipping it to Vishnu for repair and depending on what’s wrong with it, it could end up costing more than a new tune. Also make sure it comes with a good wiring harness.

Wrong, V4 had a confirmed tune-related misfire issue. OP, V5 is fine from a tune-induced misfire standpoint.

LOL, I have never heard of a harness go bad. Fear mongering at its finest.

If the OP cares what tune I run, it's in my sig. It appears he's dying for another tuner war but I'm not getting involved.

I just read a few of your threads from last year and it looks like there was a lot going on.
I appreciate all the input, just purchased the V5 after countless times of changing my mind from JB4-->COBB-->PROcede and I even looked at Renntech, but decided not to bother with a relatively new tune even though it was very appealing.

Tune war sounds nice right about now...

Sorry, I didn't even consider the v4 considering the OP asked about the v5. Good call, but not relevant. As for the harness, you know there are a lot of people who can screw up just about anything. They could have broken a pin on the connector. It would be a quick fix, but could be a pain to figure out or find after doing the install. So before passing judgment, making pointless statements, you should think about all the possibilities. Fear Mongering… LOL Good one.
