Buying an E93 335... Couple of questions!

So, I'm looking to replace my old E92 335 (write-off), and am in the process of trying to decide what to purchase (e.g. E92/E93, a cheaper 2007/08 or purchasing a >2009 with the updated i-drive and DCT, etc.)...

Couple of quick questions re: the E93... (I've searched the forums, but North American specs are always different).

1. Is the M-spec a must? I can do without the M-spec aesthetics, but wondering whether the suspension is different and recommended for the convertible?

2. What are the stock options for the E93s sold in Australia? Are heated seats standard? etc. Are there any "must have" options for the E93?

3. Any problems specific to the convertibles? And any 'bad years'?

Cheers

1. Not necessarily, looks a lot better though. Msport is 10mm lower and has slightly firmer dampers, E93 works well with either suspension setup

2. Pro nav, xenons etc are all standard on the E93 335. Heated seats are an option as is comfort access and some of the other things. No major options you can't live without.

3. Roofs leak and rattle. All years.

Personally for my money the following would be the overriding aspects.

1 n54 (better tuning options)
2 dct (best combo of manual and auto and it's quicker)
3 msport (looks better and slightly harder springs)

Thanks for the responses!

woosh - Nope, it wasn't the black E92... wasn't a big accident, but the cost to repair exceeded the salvage cost (repairable write-off).

bmroxm5 - Good advice, thanks. How prevalent are the roof leaks and rattles? Is it something that happens to most of them, or just the unlucky ones? ... I thought the heated seats might be standard on the E93 as all of those I've looked at online seem to have them, but obviously not. I can live without most options, although I would miss CA.

pavo335 - Will definitely be getting an N54, my Cobb needs a home . DCT will be a definite if I end up getting something in the 09> range.

had a MY09, non M Sport, suspension was softer than my current m sport, yet not as compliant, the LCI models really did improve suspension wise.

mine was loaded with everything, comfort access is a good thing, once you get used to it, its handy.

no issues with mine whatsoever, the roof, no rattles, no leaks even during high pressure washes. all good on that front. I did have the squeaky brakes though, i believe it is common among 335s.

i actually sold mine purely due tot he suspension tune, after driving the LCI, it was really a big difference.

In terms of number 3, I have an e93 335i and I've had no issues. No leaks or rattles.
So I'm guessing the problematic ones are the unlucky ones.

Heated seats (front) were standard on both 325 & 335 convertible models. Attached is a Price & Options list circa July 2008...

As my wife reminds me on cold days I can assure you an 09 model e92 335 does NOT come with heated seats as standard. This was the only option I wanted but couldn't get in the timeframe. The dealers comments were mmmmm in Melbourne they are all pretty much spec'd with heated seats but not the warmer climes

Maybe all the e93s have heated seats for when you have the roof down on a sunny but cold day lol?

Thanks guys.

One more question before this thread turns into a 'convertibles are gay' thread ...

For Australian-spec E93s without comfort access, can the roof be opened/closed with the key fob? Or is this only for CA?

I can open the roof on mine with the key, but I can't close it.
You just have to keep holding the unlock button and it will open and put the windows up.

You should be able to close roof as well by holding lock button. It only closes when the car is unlocked from memory so you might have to unlock then hold.....

Thanks for your help everyone.

I have now purchased a 2009 Space Grey E93 MSport 335i with D-CT.

Just need to replace the numberplate, have some panel damage repaired, have 2 rims repaired (curb rash) and have it detailed... then I'll post some pics
