Not to dissuade you, but on detailing boards that paint color has the reputation as being the softest, easiest to mar, and hardest to keep swirl free in the entire automotive industry.

If Jet Black were offered on M Sport, I'd almost certainly order an F31 in JB. |

Both of the above posts are correct. My E90 is JB, and I love it. Also waiting on M Sport, so my next car won't be JB. It does take some time to keep clean, but there is nothing better than a really clean JB.

I ordered my F30 in Jet Black. All of my previous BMW's have been either Jet Black or Black Sapphire. While Jet Black is difficult to keep clean and shows swirl marks more than Black Sapphire, it is such a great deep black color when clean, that I put up with the hassle. As long as you're OCD like me, it's a great color.

I've got a jet black on order - while black saphire looks great in the photos on this forum, in the flesh it didn't look black enough for my liking - it's not grey, but also not quite black and I thought it looked a bit weird. That was under flourescants though. Also I'd rather spent the £600 metallic paint costs on other gadgets like Harmon Kardon.
My current 118D is jet black and it does get microscratches easily, but I really don't care. I really don't think that anyone other than owners cleaning their own vehicles notice swirls - noone I know inspects my paintwork that closely! So as long as it stays shiny and retains its lovely deep black colour that's fine by me. I'm not going to waste my life "detailing" the thing every week. I will however be applying BMW's "seal and protect" (normally costs £500 when applied by the dealer but I've found an ebay seller that sells the product for £15!!). As well as carpet and leather protectants, this pack also contains a hard wax and I hope this will help protect the paint when it gets washed by £5 hand car washes. I'm certain this would indeed be unflattering.

I ordered my F30 in Jet Black and my current 2009 E92 coupe is Jet Black. I personally find it the most flattering shade (metallic isn't my thing). You can't go wrong with JB it looks classic, sporty, and simply stunning!
Like all dark colors it easily shows dirt/pollen/etc. and swirl marks if not dried properly. I just do a weekly weekend wash and she looks gorgeous all week. Avoid parking under trees, near bushes, etc. to alleviate debris and you should be good to go. |

This, however ... I wish I could order in jet black but I want M sport more so I'll have to go with black sapphire. If it was even remotely possible to get the jet black on M sport, I would get it in a heart beat and spend the extra $550 elsewhere.
