Anybody ever lose a C-clip from a wastegate actuator rod?

Problem history here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677198

Dealer is saying the C-clip was lost. I've never lost any of the WGA hardware from either of my other turbo vehicles...seems a bit odd.

Also, they are acting like it's really difficult to get to, almost as bad as changing the turbos. I haven't crawled under the car yet since I bought it, and it's at the dealer now. Is it really that difficult to get to?

rear easy, front hard. I don't remember exactly but the front WGA is between the turbo and block. Removing the front DP from the turbo may help give you access. You'd have to move steering rack, maybe the heat shield... but I don't remember well. Could be a good time for DPs if you don't have them.

So what are they proposing? The c-clip is about $.50.

What also happens is that the whole pin can break off the lever, seen it numerous times. That would require a new turbo.

A customer had the c-clip of the rear turbo pop off. Even that took some effort to replace with a lift (from underneath). Front turbo will require quite a bit more work.

OK, thanks for the input. Luckily this time it's covered under CPO. Looking forward to putting a single on and trading these types of problems for other types :-).

Rear turbo cotter pin isn't too hard to replace, simple as taking off a set of downpipes, but that front one, forget it lol.

The C clip is not available separately from BMW. Also depends if it's an early turbo or later. The early wastegates are about 6mm and the newer ones are 8mm.

It was the front one. I paid $50 CPO, dealer is charging BMW over $1500 at the reduced labor rate for that plus the new fuel pressure sensor.
