Rear window tint looks bodgey!!
Hey guys,
Just a quick one - I literally picked my car up on saturday and had the tints done today. It was through a authorised tinter. The back window - At the top - Looks terrible. He said this is a common problem on this model. 08 BMW (335 if that matters) There was no previous tint on the car. He said it will take a week to settle but even then won't look 100%. Has any1 else experienced this problem and found a solution or can anyone recommend a tinter that will make this look immaculate? Thanks in advance. Marc G. |

I've got the same issue on my car and it bugs me each time i look over at it
Tint was done through BMW selected contractor and negotiated into the deal i got. The tint had a lifetime warranty so i contacted them about it and they are more than happy to re-do the work for me at no charge but i haven't had the time to go back yet. I've seen the issue on a few E9X's but I've also seen some with flawless tint work done with no bubbling or peeling. |

Yes it is the dot matrix part - I'll get some pics of it tomorrow.
I know it seems like no biggie - But its really frustrating and its only been on there 2 hours. HAHA - Yes I have issues. |

Similar thing happened to mine, i waited for a week and it still looks bad... u just have to live with it. OR, an alternative that some forum member suggested was so stick a strip of black vinyl wrap over the top part

I got my partners 320i done at Tint-Ur-Ride on the Gold Coast and it looks fine... I'm a fussy bugger and haven't noticed any issues with the rear window at all. I'll have to go look tomorrow morning.
oh, and they only charged $200 for 35% on the front windows and 55% for the 3 rears. |

Unfortunately this problem is specific to the Coupe as the dot matrix is much wider.
I had the same problem but when they removed the tint to try and fix it they ruined the heater demister bars and nicked the headlining. They (Tint-A-Car) denied liability and in the end I claimed on my car insurance and replaced both the headlining and the whole back windscreen!!! Once that was done I had my BMW dealer re-do it. They specifically don't tint over the dots at the top of the windscreen, they just leave it untinted, which looks fine and is the best solution. There is a product called Dotmaster or something like that which some tinters use, but it doesn't really work either. Others actually try and file down the dots using steel wool.

I have had this problem since i got my E90 tinted.
When its new you can everynow and then run your finger along the dots to flatten it out Its hardly visible anymore. That is with 15% allround I ran my finger along it every day for about a week and they slowly flatten out. now i dont even notice it |

Brisbane BMW Westside did mine darkest tint possible and perfect very professional job, they keept the car overnight to get more heat lights on the back window, even gave me a loaner car as well, but they said it was the dots system around the top they have problems with.

Well this is interesting... I thought most of these guys would've figured out to sand it down a little by now? Using a very fine sand paper of course
That's how my guy did it (on a 1 series) |

Ok so I have put heat and credit card wrapped in cloth to make it better - It did make it better but you can still notice it. Ahwell - I will ride it out for a month - If it ets that annoying - Ill vinl wrap the top bit I spose.
Good to hear I am not the only one - Makes me feel somewhat better to know there are others suffering. |
