Question on tire replacement
I need some help on making decision on replacing a tire. Just had annual maintanence on my 2009 335i. Was informed I need a front right tire. Vehicle is still under warranty and don't want to void it. Technician told me he won't mount a tire I purchase via internet. Can I get one from internet cheaper and have it put on from another garage cheaper than the dealer? Will it void the warranty? The dealership quoted me a cost at $379.00 to replace the tire. It is a run-flat. Thanks so much for the help.

Buy the tire from tirerack or costco. If you buy from tirerack they list local places that will install it for you. Will not void warranty.

Why do you need jsut one (1) new tire? Is it worn irregularly? Does it have a leak in it? If it just needs a repair for a slow leak, then have the tire fixed. It is unusual just to have to replace 1 tire unless it was damaged in some way.

Any reason not to buy from Mavis? Prices are better there then Tire Rack. I wouldnt have them do the install, just ship the tires.
Anyone have suggestions as an alternative to the Bridgestone RFTs? |

I just got Michelin pilot super sports for my 330i and love them! They're a tad expensive but worlds better than the run flats that are on our cars stock.
Just my two cents. I was also looking at the continental dw tire which also had great reviews |

Tires should have no effect whatsoever on your warranty. many places will not install items that you purchase and bring in. This is probably the case. Not a warranty issue, just a liability issue for the installer.
I have had my Michelin Pilot Super Sports for about 5 months now. Amazing tires when you push them hard. Thing is, unless you drive near the limit of normal tire adhesion, the super sports are just not worth the money. If you track the car, or regularly push your car hard on twisty roads I would highly recommend. However, if you drive like most people, I would highly recommend the Hankook V12. Great price, great tire in most situations. |

I agree 100% on this. I had the Michelins and they are worth their weight in gold if you push hard. Really satisfying. But when I upgrade my rims, I decided to go down market and try something new..the Hankooks V12. Better tread life than the Michelins, quieter, and in 90% of my real life driving world, they are just as up to the tast as the Michelins. And not only are these tires lasting significantly longer (my Michelins lasted 20000km, my Hankooks are currently at 17000km with lots of life left in them), they are half the price. And like Jeremecium, you are only going to notice the difference at the edge of performance. |
