2010 Federal Law

I have been shopping for some tires. Went into one place and was told that in 2010 federal law will prohibit cars with OEM RFT'S from having NON_RFT placed on the car. The only thing they will be able to place on any car is what came OEM ( size wise ).

Has anyone heard that one?

I find the gas one very hard to enforce. Every gas pump would need a policeman.

The tire guy asked me what car the tires were for and automaticly started giving me quotes on RFT'S. I told him what I was looking for and then gave me that line about 2010.

Don't they have any better legislation to pass? Maybe they can force you to have oil changes within 1000km of the recommended interval. What happens if you break the law? Do you go to jail? Does your car get impounded and when it comes back, the PS2s are gone and RFTs back on?

Just something that I was told and have not seen an postings about. Shoot I will have 2-3 sets worn out by 2010. Gives me a reason to buy an ///M.

I will simply take the wheels into the tire dealer in the back of my wife's X3 and have the tires changed without showing them the car that will use them.

I was joking about the gas law, it's about as reasonable as the RFT rumor

your tire dealer would rather sell the RFT's because they make more money on them

no way any law resembling that is coming down the pipe

Went onto America's tire company on the web. I was looking at the BFG G-force tire in the staggered configuration and priced the tires by tire. Went to look at the reviews and miss clicked on submit a review and at that point the site wanted to know what make and model car. The site would not let a review be posted with that car and tire due to the fact that the tire choice and type of car was not compatible.

Michelin is America's Tire company?

America's Tire company and Discount Tire are one in the same here. They sell many brands and I'm actually looking at the PS2's. The G-force is also made by Michelin, just cheeper I guess.

I wouldn't say Michelin makes G-Force....
BF Goodrich is in the Michelin group, but is a separate corporate entity.

No it is not... Same plants, same management and marketing teams.

1) national coverage for replacements ( company )

2) I have been asking what availability is on a specific type of tire.

Kumo has not been very available in the rear size. They have fronts all over, however not the rears.

Michelin's are more available and in stock.

I have asked everywhere I have been to pull up stock across the country and I am leaning toward the PS2's. I have not completed my research as yet. I still have time at this point. I will have new shoes before the trip to HC 11.

Goodyear's are not even in the running. The rear 18" are very scarce.
