Backseat Air Vents

I just got my car yesterday and the weather in Korea is burning hot already. I turned on my AC on max and I noticed there was no air coming out to the vents of the backseats. I messed with that l and 0 nob, pushing it up and down and the "blue" and "red" knob but nothing is coming out of the vent. Also there is a switch inside the armrest, same thing that has l and 0. Messed with that but that didn't work. <--(Wondered whats that for??) Is there a setting where the air vents could be turned off? What do I need to do to make the backseat air vents work? Don't want backseat passengers to burn up!!

the blue and red knob is the fine temp adjust, wont change flow. the switch inside the armrest is for the drink cooler/heater. i didn't even know there were vents in the back, never took time to even look in the back of my car

I think people are not getting my question. If those knobs are not to make air come out, how can I get air coming out of the vents???

we are understanding your question.

the "I/O" knob is suppose to open (I) or close (O) the vents, so if no air is coming up even the knob is in the open position, there's something wrong.

Thank you for your answer. So there is nothing else that controls air flow to the backseat vents except for that little knob that goes up and down? If that knob is on "flow" and air is not coming out, there is something wrong, right? Crap.....

Um, your main controls on the front dash control the air flow to the back of the car. You have to have the air on in the front to have air on in the back.

Okay. I know I have to have the air control on in the front for the air to come out in the back. No air in the front, no air in the back. That is obvious. And I must have the "flow" knob on l to make air come out. I just heard from a X5 owner that you must put it in "auto" to have it come out in the back. Let me go try....

This happened to me once, but I really don't recall what I did to make it work again. I do remember that it was wet, humid and cold outside that day, so my problem was no heat back there. I think that the X5 owner might be right on the money. Let us know if having it on auto is the trick.

The airflow to the backseats is comming from the airvents in the cars floor. The temperature for those is controled from the front passenger's temperature knob.

Absolutely NOT.
To have air for your face if you site in the back seats do thisfrom user manual)
1 Use the knurled wheel to smoothly open
and close the air vents
2 Use the knurled wheel to adjust the temperature:
> Turn toward blue: colder
> Turn toward red: warmer
3 Use the lever to change the direction of the
airflow

Well, that backseat airvent is pretty far away from the ventilation system, so don't expect the same airflow with the front air vents.

Anyway, if there is 0 air coming out of those vents even in the maximum settings, then you ll have to go to the service.

Bring it to your dealer ASAP to determine what your problem is.

I drive an '03 X5 and you don't have to put it in "auto" to have "air" coming out from the back-vent.

What am I missing here? Just take it to the dealer. There is no secret. Either air blows out when the vent is opened, or it doesn't.

I read somewhere that some folks had cars delivered with ductwork that was tweaked, and not circulating properly. Just run back to the dealer, show them what it's not doing and get it handled. :rocks:

Mine works great, they have forcefull air coming out in back when the fan is blowing hard up front.

I believe that if you have air coming from the dash vents up front then you have the ability to have air through the consol vents in back. If the air is coming out of the footwell up front then the air comes from the under seat vent in back. If that isn't working then you have a problem.
