Is it a 335 or a 330?

Jeremy Clarkson is the one that started this. He has a point. He said the 335 should be named a 330 because it is a 3 liter not a 3.5 liter. That would be more consistent with industry standard and BMW history...for the most part. I know BMW has sometimes strayed from convention with the numbering in the past. But, I always liked the 330ci. Personally, I wish BMW would have so named the 335i. I am considering starting a one-man revolution by rebadging my 335i to a 330ci. What say you?

on that basis the 328 should be 330. the e90 325 should also be a 330. and so forth. the last two digits are just a guideline but not a requirement and bmw has strayed in the past. 540 should've been 544, etc etc.

other manufacturers that go follow this closely is mb, but they dont strictly adhere especially in cases where they offer essentially the same engine but one with a s/c

Sorry but, murellus is right.
They would all be 330s then.
And that would just be wrong.

How about 330i (325 and 328), 330Si (330i) and 330i Turbo (335i)

well since the N52 330i is the 330Si then the 335i could essentially be a 335SHiT (Sport High-output Injection Turbo)

it's just an identifier to differentiate it from the other models, i can't see why this is even an issue worth debating. It's not like BMW was trying to fool anybody.

The 318ti was a 1.9 liter 4 banger and the 323i was a 2.5 liter 6 IIRC.

Everyone who sees my 335 says "that car is the SHiT", so you may be on to something

i guess i'll go rebadge my 325i as a 330i since it has a 3.0L motor as well.

first I'd vote for 330IT or 330ITT

but that being said, i guess its similar to the processor wars.

even though the actual Gigahertz speed is slower it outperforms faster gigahertz processors... AMD-INTEL war.
