Plus, 19's are just heavy and tires cost more. If you live in an all season area, you'll need different tires or wheels/tires for winter. There is not added performance benefit to 19's, on the contrary they take away some performance. They are for looks imo. |

We have the 19" 403 wheels on offer with M-Sport in our market. Nice wheels by the way.

I prefer the look of the 19's. Agree that the look is the main factor but given then staggered size and slightly bigger footprint on the road, I don't agree there is no performance impact. Sure, they may be slightly heavier but given that they are forged alloys - that's negligible. You are good either way but let's not knock the 19's!

for sure, if the 18's would have been staggered it would have been even better, but the style of the 18's are awesome

I think I'll probably order the 18" M-Sport wheels, but just because I already have some nice Avante Garde CSL 19"s with summer tires from my E92 that I can throw on the F30 in the summer.

Yep, I prefer the 18's too. I've never been a fan of the machined look that BMW uses on many of their M wheels. Plus, for the upgrade price of the 19's, you could get a good set of non RFT's for the 18s.

this is confirmed - in the us, the 18s WILL be staggered 255s in the back. I'd take the 18's over the 19's - just heavier, more road nose, higher maintenance tires....no performance benefit unless u're planning on jamming monster sized brakes in there...

Eh, stock wheels are all the same to me. I'll go with whatever is free since they'll be swapped out with better looking/fitting aftermarket wheels with non-RFT immediately and collect dust until I sell the car.

Here are rough theoretical calculations: The 18" 400M wheels have 225/45 front tires (225mm x 45% = 101.25mm sidewall height) and 255/40 rear tires (255mm x 40% = 102mm sidewall height). The 19" 403M wheels have 225/40 front tires (225mm x 40% = 90mm sidewall height) and 255/35 rear tires (255mm x 35% = 89.25mm sidewall height). So basically, the 403M tires have roughly 12mm less tire sidewall height than the 400M. That's more than a 10% difference, and enough to increase sidewall stiffness and improve handling significantly. PERSONALLY, despite this significant improvement with the 19" 403M wheels, I still plan to order the 18" 400M wheels. Why? Because the same reduced tire sidewall height that improves handling also makes it much more likely that I will break a wheel in one of our many St. Louis, MO year-round potholes. Not to mention the endless spine jarring when I keep my car in "sport mode" all the time. The bottom line is that even though I do faster cornering in my BMW than 95% of drivers, I don't need the "ultimate" capability. The 18" 400M wheels are plenty good enough. And they look great. |
