Blackberry 8100 and BMW Bluetooth

Hi,

Has anyone managed to sync over their full address book from a Blackbery 8100 to an e93. i have the ProSatNav system fitted with the Bluetooth telephone prep with telematics.

The car sees my Blackberry and I can make and receive phone calls, but my address book only gets as far as the letter E - not a lot of good. I have ab out 200 entries.

I know that the Blackberry 8100 is designated Limited functionality, but i would have thought that if it takes part of the address book, it would take it all.

I do have an older SE K800i, and that has worked perfectly, but I would rather use my 8100, and dont really want to have to keep swapping the SIM Card.

Thanks for and advice or help

Alex

yeah I was about to say. Mine works fine as well. Got no issues with it.

Try deleting the connection from the phone and having the car search again for a pairable device? Mine didn't pick up after T once....reset the phone and deleted the contact from the car. After that it worked fine.

The 8100 is not a BMW approved phone (not on the site in the US at least), so it works, but if any problems they won't fix it for you under warranty.

If you are still having issues, the TCU can always be disconnected, then plugged back in (with the key out of the car)...sometimes it needs a reset to get it working again..much like computers.

However Im not sure where the TCU is in the E93...most likely in the trunk somewhere..but I haven't had the chance to work on one.

Not sure what the 200 refers to. Only 200 transferred? You have 200 people with multiple phone numbers each (hence more than 200 phone numbers). Or you have a total of 200 phone numbers.

Since U.S. and U.K. systems aren't comparable, all I can say is that in the U.S. the Pearl has tested fine with several hundred phone numbers total and has worked flawlessly. Of course, with different TCUs, YMMV.

Hi all, and thanks for you inout.

No i have about 200 phone numbers in total (that includes those with multiple numbers.

I'll try deleteing the phone from the car and then re-pairing and see what happens.

I'll let you know - its good to know that others do have it working though

Thanks again

Alex

Alex, reiterating what I posted earlier in this thread, you are in the U.K. and the other posters are in the U.S. so their experience is not relevant to you.

200 phone numbers in total is definitely not too many but if the phone is not compatible in your market, that may reflect a different problem.

Hi Jonathan
yes I appreciate that the other posters are in the US, but presumably, the software in my 8100 is the same, so the difference is presumably in the car's software, but would have thought that the bluetooth bit would be fairly standard.

Anyway, unpaired, removed, and re-paired but no joy, gets to the letter E and then stops.

In the UK, the bluetooth list shows the 8100 as only having limited functionality. Is that not the same in the US? I do appeciate BMW's problem - phones chane every 10 months or so, and its seems that the bluetooth used is not always standard, so it must be a nightm are for them, but still a bummer.

Cheers anyway

Alex

The phone is presumably the same (although that is not a guarantee because each mobile operator has a tendency to insert their own software which can modify functionality incl. Bluetooth functionality) but the TCUs are worlds apart.

BMW doesn't even have the Pearl/8100 on their list but their list is very limited and out of date.

I have tested about 25 mobiles (report is to be published online within 2 weeks I am told) and the Pearl did do really well in the tests. This was of course with BMW NA TCUs.

FYI -- just got the new BB 8300 Curve (AT&T) and it sync's perfectly with my 335i. At first, it loaded all 3,000 contacts from my Curve's database but then I changed a bunch of contacts to 'Personal' or 'Business' categories and told the BB to only load those 2 categories; all the others are in 'no category.' It now loads only what I want it to load from my address book. Works great!

Sounds as if the OS in the 8830 is better than 8100, I dont even have the ability to categorise my contacts - chance would be a fine thing:

The addresses must be saved to the phone's memory to work. Addresses on the SIM card will not be displayed. Perhaps this is the problem? Just a thought.

Hi All - thanks for all your suggestions - established what the issue was. For others who might have yhe same problem - on the 8100 I had set up a group called 'Family'. The address book transfer was bombing out at the letter 'E'.
Family was the first entry on the 8100 in the letter 'F'. Deleted that and all of the address book transferred without a hitch.

My fault for not checking the 8100 rather than looking for problems on my computer.

So the moral is - get rid of any groups on the 8100

Than ks again all for your suggestions - its nice to know that there is abunch of people happy to offer help to others

I had the same experience. The address book will synch until it get to a group. Deleted the group and it synced up perfectly.
