M6 or M5?

Hi currently I'm driving an E92 335 and looking to upgrade in the near future. I like the idea of 412kw and almost 700 Nm of torque (I'm in Australia so we talk w and Nm!), but not sure if the M5 or M6 is the choice. I must admit I like the look of the M6 more than the M5, of course that is subjective. Apart from styling, since they are both M cars, would you feel the M6 would be a completely different beast compared to the M5, handling, acceleration etc wise? or it is safe to say the M5 is a 4 door version of the M6? any thoughts appreciated.

M5 is a sedan, but M6 is a luxurious GT. Technically yes, the M5 is a 4 door M6 Coupé, but there is a true true 4 door M6 Coupé coming, the M6 GranCoupé. It will be the most expensive but also the most exclusive. In terms of performance, the M6 Coupé will be faster because it is slightly lighter (1925 kg vs 1945 kg).

In the current generation they are very different cars, I would not at all say that the 6er is a 2 door 5er as the interior space is completely unique in the M6, and the 6er is wider. The M6 though is a 2 seater, dont expect much utility if you need room for more than one passenger. The styling is radically different, and you pay for that exclusivity. They will be very differently priced, so that is part of the equation too, and the handling will be very different too. They are both vastly larger vehicles from your current e92, so understand that it will not be as nimble no matter how much more power they have, and you should test them both to ensure you can live with such a vehicle, they are crusiers while the e92 is like a go-kart.

M6 should be more unique.

I was reading an interview on another BMW website, and the engineers seemed to be really proud of the new M6 (more proud than usual).

So if you can afford an M6 get it.

at the recent NYIAS the M bosses commented the dynamics of the new M6 would be improved over the current F10 M5. I really hope it'll address some of the issues the M5 has been reported to have, mainly like traction issues (just too much power)

The current M5 in Australia is approx $230,000 USD, If the M6 in Australia (no pricing yet) is around $270,000 USD, then that's in the same territory as the 991 Carrera S ($287,000 USD) .... which I haven't driven myself yet, but then makes the choice a bit more difficult...M6 or Carrera S... I've excluded the E63 AMG..or spend the extra $100,000 USD and wait for the 991 Turbo (current 997 turbo in Australia is around $380,000 USD)

How many people are usually in your car?
1 or 2 --> M6
3 or 4 --> M5

Right, just depends if you have more than two people who are riding in the car and personal style preference.

The m6 looks fantastic. Though, I like four-doors. . . Test drive both, likely to feel different from behind driver seat.

I definately like the style of the M6 better than the M5, however I wonder how much it will differ dynamically. All the video clips of the M5 look great (given a lot of the technology of the M5 and M6 is shared), I'm waiting patiently for some video reviews of the M6, as the dealer here in Australia says they're not expecting their M6 demo until July. Apparently the press reviews being next month, so hopefully we should see something then.

If you need 4 doors but love the styling of the M6, the M6 Gran coupe will suit your needs

Not a big fan of F10 M5...personally I still like E60 M5 for its more aggressive look.

However, for F13 M6...it's definitely the master piece of BMW - such a gorgeous creation!
