Actual contrast ratio: 800:1
Fuck that. I know Dynamic Ratios can be a bit pie in the sky, but a TV with a DR of 1,000,000:1 will have a AR far higher than 800:1. My LG 32" LCD has a DR of 50,000:1 and that's a few years old now. I think even Dixons/Comet had a Samsung LED for £299. I'd spend a bit more on something like that tbh. |

Defiantly a case of "you get what you pay for" i think
I'd spend a bit more, google some reviews.

Contrast ratio is the contrast difference between the darkest part of the screen and the lightest part. A low contrast ratio will mean you have grey looking blacks and dull whites.
Dynamic contrast ratio is all bollocks, don't give it too much consideration when buying a TV, just look for a good real contrast ratio and a fast response time. For gaming you ideally want the lowest response time you can afford as this will reduce motion blur. In your situation I would actually buy a plasma screen, they handle movement a lot better than LED screens and if fast paced shooters are what you are playing you really want to minimise motion blur as much as possible. |

As said, the contrast ratio is the amount of colours between the whitest white and blackest black. The higher the number the wider range of colours available.
For a TV next to your PC that Samsung seems to fit the bill. Dynamic Ratio of 5,000,000:1, and although the Actual Ratio will be lower, it will be far higher than 800:1. A plasma screen maybe a bit big for what he wants. |

I only really play COD and FIFA, so let me get this right, I'm looking for a plasma TV 1080p with a hight real contrast radio and a low response time. When looking at TV spec's how will they measure the response time, just so i know what to look out for ? any good examples for around £300 pound and a sizes of around 30". thanks for the info

Plasma may be a bit out of that price and size range.
Best to stick to either LG or Samsung, you can't go too wrong with either makes. Find which offers the best response time (refresh rate is the term they use for most LED TVs) as a priority then look into the contrast ratio as a secondary consideration. Both FIFA and COD will suffer terribly with motion blur if you pick the wrong set. Last edited by CarAbuser; 03-15-2012 at 05:57 AM.. |

Another vote for richer sounds, great prices on tv's which are often the previous model. Extended warranty is also cheap at only 10% of purchase price for 5 years. Excellent service.
