New member (and front suspension issue?)
Howdy folks, another Z4um refugee here. This fourm looks good, so a big hello from Houston.
Recently picked up a 2006 M Roadster. It's actually currently in the service shop (Momentum BMW) to get a front suspension/brace/strut popping sound looked at. Has around 4000 miles on it. The pop/creak happens during any sort of body torque (speed bump, pothole and so on). Could be a loose brace? Momentum BMW had to drive another M just to make sure it was not normal... A number of members of Z4um had heard the same thing. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Also the roof is closing kinda heavy (with a heavy clunk). I used to have a 2004 Z4 3.0i, roof used to lock shut much more quietly. Otherwise it's a great car as of course you all know. I checked out the Cayman and even a 911, but couldn't do it. Looking forward to being a part of the group. |

felixoz welcome. Glad you found the forum.
Sorry to hear about the front end. Hope they can get it repaired and back quickly. Haven't had any problems with my ///M yet (5800 miles).....keeping my fingers crossed! Like you, I had a 04 3.0i prior to getting the ///M and have also noticed that the top closes "with authority" as compared to the previous car. I seen many comments about this and believe that it's a function of the design.

IIRC, There was a bulletin on the front strut tower braces. I believe they just needed to be re-torqued. That top doesn't sound right.... mine is smooth as silk.

(Off topic, but I recently drove through Houston, and I must say,it was an. . . ummm. . . noteworthy experience. Thank god I had the Nav, so all I had to do was avoid other cars and follow instructions. Otherwise I think that funny little vein in my forehead woulda been having a field day. )

I have the same exact problem with mine. It gets pretty annoying after awhile. I haven't taken it in yet though. I plan to do that when I go in for an oil service.
My top however is functioning fine.

Final chapter - as inTgr8r said, it was simply the front strut tower braces that needed to be re-torqued. Roof straps were replaced and tightened.
soeharyo - it was a $/horsepower, $/fun and interior size thing (I'm 6'5"). Also IMHO the girls like the Z4 more |
