HPF intercooler with 1M

Has anyone got the Horsepower Freaks Intercooler fitted to their 1M?

If so, I would like to hear what you think of the performance/installation/build quality. If you have any pictures of the unit fitted and installation that would be a bonus.

Many thanks in advance.

Did you notice a difference in IATs and power?

Any JB4 logs?

I sold one to a customer in Australia, around the Gold Coast area. He had no issues with the fitment

As to how he enjoys it, you'd have to ask him but he definitely felt it helped during the summer months.

I haven't been able to get any good photos of it just yet, but I'll give you my opinion on the intercooler.
By the way, I'm no good at giving reviews.

I've had this on both my 135i and now my 1M.

It's a pretty large piece of metal (HPF FMIC), so large that you need to do quite a bit of cutting from the inside of the bumper. I'm not sure how important the plastic is that you need to cut, but it looks as if the plastic never even existed now.

On the 135i it actually fits very well, but on the 1M you need to get the undertray just right or it'll be very difficult to get all the screws in their designated locations.

The installation is not hard at all but does take some time cutting the plastic where the intercooler gets installed at. You gotta trim a little at a time so you don't cut too much.

Once installed I checked for any leakage; go for a drive and all is well.

I did some pulls with the stock intercooler + JB4 and the HPF + JB4.
(No Dynos, unfortunately)
I did "feel" a big difference in the 4500-6500 rpm range.
I guess the biggest difference is in 6th gear (overdrive), the car doesn't lose power during acceleration, where the OEM unit would start to die down.

Ambient Temperature would see a constant 50F(Winter) 70F(Summer).
The summer readings came from my 135i when it was 95F+ outside.

Overall, I would highly recommend getting this.

P.S. If I missed any points, just let me know and I'll try to cover it as well.
P.P.S. Did I mention I'm not good at reviews.

We would really appreciate some photos if you could manage to illustrate how it fits and how much you cut away. Sorry to be a pain!
Of course I would have gotten HPF. The 135i had some trimming needed to be done and so I knew there was going to be some for the 1M. If it was a problem, I probably would have sold it for another aftermarket one.
When I had my 135i, I read about some of the intercoolers needing some "minor trimming" to accommodate it to the car, but when HPF announced their FMIC was coming out and to be bigger than any others available, I knew there was gonna be even MORE cutting involved.

It doesn't even look modified either.

I was part of the first batch released for the HPF FMIC.

I can take some photos with my phone, but it isn't even iPhone quality.
I'll see what I can get with it.

If you don't mind cutting into the core support of your 1M, this is not a bad intercooler.

Although installing the IC without any tuning may or may not net you any power gains. The HPF's unit is not only deeper, but also slightly taller and may not allow an easy install of the engine under tray.

7" unit may be an overkill for the street driven 1M anyway. You will notice more throttle lag with or without a tune. The "M" button does help get some of the throttle reponse back though. Smaller units, like the 5" from ETS will keep the throttle lag to a mimimum and still give good performance to just over 400 WHP, which is really good and reliable.
