E92 - 'Rear Brake Light Failure' although brake light works fine!
Hi all,
Bit of a problem on my 07' E92. Upon starting the car up, the good old exclamation mark (!) comes up and says 'Rear Brake Light Failure'. I've had 3 people stand behind the car and visually check for me - the brakes work perfectly fine. Any idea how to somehow disable the message from appearing? Is there some sort of 'reset' procedure I can enter to reset the system? Cheers, Ozzie |

I have exactly the same issue. My car is a 2011 E90. I recently fitted the Lux AE's to the car - not sure if this is causing the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Yeah as mentioned, ive read up that it could be the BFD (brake force display) bulb. Jam on the brake hard and get someone to check if both are brightly illuminated. Check everything and if you cant find a bulb out, then search how to reset warning symbol lights. |

E92 has two brake lights in each rear lamp, like inner and outer. I had same problem but then I noticed two lights and one of em was out. This is European version so I dont know does it make any difference. Hope it helps

I agree with checking all the lights first BUT...
I had the same thing happen and I ignored it for a few days - sure enough, one of my brake lights went out. I have no idea how the warning came up before the bulb totally failed but it did. Anyway, I'd keep an eye on it.

Could also be one of the tiny bulbs. My memory is fuzzy right now but last year I had this issue and could not see any problems with the rear brake lights. When I went to the dealership the SA took a look and said there are 5 tiny bulbs on each side. They replaced it and everything is fine.

I had this problem before.
Remove the bulbs electric board from the housing (it's pretty easy to remove) and ask somebody to see if all bulbs (two for breaks) lights up when you hit the brakes. Sometimes it actually lights up fine but warning will still appear on a panel. So do that test several times. I also noticed that bad bulbs even though they may light up sometimes have kind of smoked glass on them. Like after it already fried but they weren't. Those bulbs are pretty expensive on BMW ;( I remember paying something like $8-9 for each.
