Euro Trip Help

So my Fiance and I are in the midst of planning our honeymoon. We're going to go to Germany (Munich, Klobenz, Nurburg), Switzerland, Saltzburg, and Northern Italy.

I've been looking around on the site for some of the more detailed euro deliveries, but I've only found one. Anyone have links to the others?

Also, any advice for renting a car in Germany? Not looking to get a Porsche, but it would be nice to get something with more juice than a four banger BMW, any advice?

Any tips are greatly welcome!

What sort of tips are you looking for?

I did Munich-Stuttgart-Berlin-Copenhagen-Stockholm-Helsinki-Hamburg-Amsterdam-Paris on my three-week Euro Delivery trip last summer. Yes, I am insane, but it was fun!

My general tips:

1. Whatever you are budgeting for your trip, double it. Then add 50% just to be safe. Europe is INCREDIBLY expensive by American standards, and while the exchange rate is better now than it was in August, it still sucks. Even peeing at an Autobahn rest stop often costs money. You can hardly park the car ANYWHERE without it costing you 10-20 Euros. 3-4 Euros for a Coke. It all adds up, fast.

2. While I can see the appeal of renting something fast and furious, don't. See above. Even my 328i, which averaged 25mpg while we were there, cost ~$1100 in fuel to go 2600 miles. A 120D or 320D would HALVE that figure between the extra mpgs and the cheaper fuel. A 320D is faster than you will be able to use 90% of the time, even in Germany. It is a rocketship compared to the average European car.

3. Don't try to do too much, take time to relax and enjoy the ambiance. My trip was insane because I had commited to a two-week Sweden/Finland trip with friends, THEN decided to buy the car. So I had to add picking up the car and getting to Stockholm and back to Amsterdam on to the original trip. Then Paris got added on after with a different set of friends.

4. If there is any way you can swing it, fly First or Business Class to Europe. The experience is SOOO much nicer than cattle class. You can sometimes get Business class for only a few hundred more than coach, it is worth every penny.

5. if you are a car guy, the BMW (obviously), Mercedes, and Porsche museums are a must see. Stuttgart is only a couple hours of fast Autobahn from Munich, and you can do the Mercedes and Porsche museums in a day. Your feet will hurt, but you will be smiling.
