From Z06 to 335i
Hey everyone. After many years with my Z06, I've decided to part ways since she was becoming an expensive garage queen. It was a really tough decision, but I decided to move onto something fun that I could enjoy every day.
I just purchased a 2008 TiAg 335i, 6spd manual, Premium, Sport, C/W, Nav, black leather & silver trim. Only had it for a few hrs, but I've been learning a lot from the forums here for a while. Just wanted to say hi Only pics I have of the 335i so far... Here is the Z06 I just sold. Gonna miss her |

It's a night and day difference since I can't really put both cars in the same league.
The Z06 was built as a pure race car, and with the power and weight it was scary fast (even when it was stock). When driving it, you felt every bump, curve, and dip in the road because of the suspension modifications I had. Plus, the Z was really geared for racing. From a stop it was difficult to ever get traction (even with the 305 Nitto 555RII's). I would reach ~65 in first gear, and the car just never ever wanted to stop pulling over 100mph. I had no problem walking cars with 50-75 more hp, and they were always shocked at how fast those Z06's were. It wasn't hard to find good drivers taking those cars into the 11's in bone stock 405hp form. You can imagine how it felt with ~460hp. I've even had the chance to drive many 2006+ Z06's, and they just don't feel as "raw" as the C5Z's. I've had my eyes on a 335i for a while. I love how BMW styled them, and the potential of the N54. I've owned and driven a lot of cars from classic American muscle, to modern German and Japanese cars, so it's great to make comparisons. Personally, I LOVE the way the 335i feels. Doesn't have the raw torque of the Vette or the other American cars I've owned. However, as the turbos spool in the upper RPM range it definitely pulls hard. I can tell that with a tune this car is going to be exciting to drive. The steering and suspension are tight in a good way, but the car is much softer than the Z06, which is actually a good thing for a daily driver. Having owned the Z06 and a 550hp Forumla WS6, being in a quiet / comfortable car with creature comforts is something I can appreciate a lot. But I do look forward to modding this car and making it more fun. Don't think I'll make it as fast as the Vette, but I wouldn't mind having a having a ~350rwhp daily driver with Nav and heated seats, haha. |

Wow, that's a surprise to me. I had a C5 Z06 '04 a few year ago and the fastest 1/4 mile time bone stock was in the middle 12's. This time was achieved during an auto magazine review of the car (I believe it was Car and Driver) and they achieved this time doing clutchless shifts. The fastest time I did was 12.9 I guess I needed a better launch technique. Those Goodyear Eagle F1 don't have any grip in the drag strip. I love my e92, but I admit that sometimes I miss that Zo6...

In the same boat, almost
I am pretty new to this Forum myself. We are fortunate enough to be able to have BOTH great rides in the garage. Some days it's tough to decide which one to take out "for a spin".
"ZOE", as our Z is called, is just a rip snortin' wild thing, while ".........." (we have not named it yet) , just puts a grin on your face. It's such a sleeper until you nudge the right pedal a bit deeper! Dont let any one tell you that the PPK is not worth it. Squintz...give me a shout if you are out towards Exit 70....We'll swap stories.
