how do i get the OLD new york plates
i just moved back to ny and i was forced to put those hideous yellow plates on my AW car. the all white cali plates looked soo clean on my car but the yellow just throws it off and makes it look so fuckin cheap.
my dad still has previous ny plates on his car so would we be able to switch the car that plate is registered to? |

i dont think you can switch plates with another car. i think some of the vanity/specialty plates are not yellow.

If you had the Blue and White plates, you are allowed to keep them indefinitely. You always have the option of exchanging them for the Blue and Gold plates.
However, a new vehicle registration requires issuance of Blue and Gold plates. There is no way to get a Blue and White plate anymore except for some specialty custom plates. |

Get the BMW CCA plates. That's what I did to get rid of the yellow/gold ones.

The newest NY plates are horrible...horrible...HORRIBLE! The plates that NY had about 10 years ago...all white...dark characters...a subtle likeness of the Statue of Liberty in the middle...were just about the nicest plates I've ever seen in North America! Whose bright idea was it to ditch *those*? NJ and CT (among others) have had the same plates for *years*!

it all comes down to cash. If you recall the idea was presented by former inept leader Patterson. He wanted everyone to get the new gold and blue plates when you had to renew your reg. He stated that this was necessary since changing plates every so many years helps law enforcement to police the roads. What a total crock if shit that was. It was about money and still is. The only upside that came about was, there was so much uproar over these new plates that all of a sudden it was no longer mandatory but now optional upon renewal. The white plates were still available early on until supplies ran out. Now, if you reg. a car new or used you get the gold plates. I read an article early on when the gold plates were being introduced and the money raised from EVERYONE being forced to switch to these plates was in the millions. Lucky enough these new plates were introduced right around an election year so, the voice of the people was heard otherwise we would all have gold plates.
