Can I retrofit 535i rear exhaust with 550i ?
I am pretty in-loved with my F11 535i Msport. Perfect combination between power, handling and fuel economy.
The only think I do not love are the two round tailpipes. Last week I have seen an F11 550i and I must say that the trapezed shape tips are much better and in line with the car's design. I looked at many threads and I am still in doubt if I can retrofit the 550i mufflers. The main doubt is about the two central pipes with the butterfly valve. How to keep them always open as the 535i does not have them. The two pipes on the 535i are both direct with no valves whatsoever. Keeping them closed I am afraid to reduce too much the gas exit while keeping them open should be the same as on the 535i mufflers. This considering that the two 535's tips together should have more or less the same diameter/area of the 4 550's pipes together. Each 535's pipe has bigger diameter than each 550's pipe. Any suggestion or contra indication?

I asked my dealer about 550 tips. Answer was "it is embedded to back exhaust". They said that if something happens to tips, you need to order back exhaust and replace it which is ridicilous and expensive.

Or find somone selling 550 exhaust and gi from there. With regards to the valve, is it electronic? If so then that can be retrofitted. If its vaccum activated, then youll have to get more creative.
Let us know how it comes out. |

The 550i exhaust uses vaccum to OPEN the valves, therefore on a 535i they will always be closed which doesnt really matter since its for sound anyways.
What i recommend you do it either get an aftermarket quad exhaust which will lok nice, or just get a 550i exhaust and on top of the tips you will see the vaccum controlled arm to opens the valves, well just pushh the arm to the open position and use a metal clamp to hold it there, therefore the valves are always open which will sound a bit better and still wont drone. |
