Dealer scratched the roof...

Hi all, long time lurker here, first post and it's about dealer BS...

Long story short I went in to have the muffler flapper and drivers door leak fixed. They resealed the door and replaced a vacuum line... Two weeks later I'm back again because the flapper still rattles and there's still a leak. They replace the muffler and replace the door vapor seal, all is good according to them and I can come pick it up.

Fast forward to 4 hours ago and I'm walking around the car (after dark so I'm glad I kept an eye out), and I look on the roof to see this mix of scratches in the paint. Sorry for the crappy iphone pic...

They're pretty deep, can't really tell at night but I think it's down to the paint. Luckily the shop foreman was still there and he took a look at it. He say's that they'll "make it right". After a closer inspection of the "free wash" they gave my car I would rather not have them touch the scratch (parts of the car are covered with greasy hand prints, unwashed areas, swirl marks up the wazoo, this after I told my SA to NOT WASH THE CAR). Any thoughts on if I should take this to a professional or let the dealership handle it? Also when I got it home I had the drivers window down and it wouldn't go back up until I helped it along it's way after they fixed the vapor seal.

BTW here's a pic on a better day, 08' 335i, Premium/Cold Weather, Black Sapphire.

You know the thing you call 'flapper' is the butterfly valve? It's to keep the exhaust from being too loud

Thats no good! Feel fortunate you found the issue before you drove off the lot and they had a chance to deny it. It sounds like they're on board with making it right for you and I hope it all works out.

Finally got a call back from my SA, they're going to take care of it with a full detail job. I'm going to be very specific that I don't want to see any burn through, holograms, or swirls when they're done...

That sucks, sorry man. Looks just the 335 i had, loved that car but the black was a bitch to keep clean up here. I had 3 scratches that were much worse and took it to a professional detailer and he was able to wet sand them out and made them unnoticeable. So it can be fixed but still sucks!

How do you know the dealer did it? Why would they mess up the roof?

They were working on the drivers door right below where the scratches are, and the same tech left stains all over the exterior and interior of the car on the dash and seats. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the tech was sloppy and didn't care. This was the second time in for the same two problems (exhaust valve and door leak), with the same tech.

Professional detailer for sure. Dealerships like to dry your car off with sandpaper, and this frequently is the result of it. Had 1 "carwash" even scratch up my interior trim. Lesson learned
